Last night there was quite a large showing of the Aurora Australis here in Queenstown.

For a long time I’ve been trying to see and capture such an event. So long I can’t actually remember maybe 7-8 years. A combination of poor weather, poor timing or not being able to get out and see/shoot the Aurora Australis has made it a bit of “A thing” for me.

Last night a heads up from chucking a post up telling all how good it was sprung me into action. From being in bed to driving my car to location within minutes. I knew where I wanted to shoot but unfortunately I had the same idea as others.

This location albeit not where I wanted to shoot worked quite well still, but ideally I would’ve liked something more interesting in the foreground. You win some, you lose some.

I moved off to another location closer to home and by that time the intensity was starting to die down. I just sat and took it all in enjoying the moment for what it was.

I may not be the most stoked on the shot but I am on the experience.
