On Friday, 22nd May, staff of the CIC-PACD Project and the National Department of Agriculture and Livestock – Highlands Region officially officiated the opening of the Molka Piggery Project, a partnership initiative under the CIC-PACD Project Component 3.1b Small Livestock, valued at K177,120.00.

The Molka Piggery Project is located in Minj, Anglimp South Waghi District of Jiwaka Province. It is an existing piggery enterprise that was established several years ago and has now been upgraded through the support of the CIC-PACD Project.

Lead partner Mr. Gibson K*m, through Molka Piggery, was one of the successful recipients under the CIC-PACD Project Component 3.1b Small Livestock and Spices. The project was fully funded and contracted to deliver the following facilities:

Upgrade of the piggery building
Bore water construction and drilling
Feed production machines
Waste pond/pit construction for biogas production
A bonus shed was built for chicken layers

The support provided through the CIC-PACD Project demonstrates its continued commitment to strengthening small livestock farming and improving agricultural productivity in rural communities.
Lead Partner and Managing Director of Molka Piggery, Mr. Gibson K*m, acknowledged the support provided by the Government of Papua New Guinea through the CIC-PACD Project, led by Project Manager Mr. Potaisa Hombunaka and Project Partnership Coordinator Mr. Alphy Semy. He stated that the assistance received was timely, as pigs are a traditional source of protein passed down through generations, but this important practice is gradually declining. Moreover, pigs serve as a living currency and remain a profound symbol of wealth and social status within local communities.
He added that the CIC-PACD Project has identified this important area of need and is addressing it to ensure long-term sustainability. He concluded by thanking the pig farmers of Molka Piggery for their commitment and dedication in coming this far, and expressed his hope for continued cooperation and partnership in the future.

Representing the CIC-PACD Project Western Zone, Senior Partnership Officer Mr. Simon Gesip congratulated the Molka Piggery lead partner and its farmers for the successful delivery of another CIC-PACD Project under Component 3.1b Small Livestock and Spices, implemented under the supervision of the National Department of Agriculture and Livestock (NDAL) Highlands Region, led by Advisor Mr. John Jave and Mr. Kawage Teka.

Mr. Gesip stated that although the CIC-PACD Project will eventually come to an end, the piggery will remain as a lasting investment for the farmers and the community. He therefore urged the farmers to continue working together to achieve greater success stories in the future, emphasizing that through cooperation and unity, the project will be sustained.

The successful opening of the Molka Piggery Project marks another important milestone in empowering local farmers and promoting sustainable livestock development in Jiwaka Province. Through strong partnership and proper management, the project is expected to create long-term economic benefits for the farmers and serve as a model for agricultural growth and self-reliance within the community.
