OFFICIAL STATEMENT – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Office of the Provincial Administrator, in close coordination with the Hon. Governor of Southern Highlands Province and the Provincial Rescue Team, expresses deep sorrow over the unfortunate incidents that occurred last night and have continued to escalate today. We are equally saddened by the injuries sustained by several of our students and extend our heartfelt sympathies to all those affected.
Following careful assessment, the Southern Highlands Provincial Government has mobilized resources and logistics to ensure the immediate evacuation and safety of all SHP students currently at the University of Goroka.
Members of MS 10 and Kumul 23 security units based in Mendi have been dispatched to Goroka to provide on-ground support and assist with the safe relocation of students. The Provincial Government will cover all associated transportation, accommodation, and logistical costs during this emergency period.
All SHP students currently on campus are advised to assemble at a designated safe location and await the arrival of the rescue team. Students residing off-campus are urged to remain indoors until further notice. Your safety remains our utmost priority during this difficult time.
We appeal for calm, cooperation, and prayer as we work to bring every student to safety. May God’s protection and peace be upon you all.
