The little boy in the yellow raincoat is from Paiyala LLG.
He does not go to school , not because he doesn’t want to, but because there is no school in his LLG.
Every day, instead of carrying books, he walks beside the excavator on the Paiyala Hewa road. He escorts the operator, fetches him water, and tries in his own small way to help the men at the worksite. When the machines rest and the operator sleeps, the boy stays behind with his father, watching over the equipment through the night, guarding a future he has never been given.
Though he is just a child, he understands what many adults have stopped believing: that this young MP is working for a better tomorrow for him.
One night, with nothing else to offer, the boy went hunting for cuscus. He caught one and stood by the roadside before dawn, knowing his MP would come early in the morning for his usual site visit. When we drove up, he was standing there alone, waiting.
He smiled shyly, his face blushing as he said,
“My Member, I don’t have anything. I only have this. I give it to you for what you are doing.”
That moment says everything.
These people were neglected for too long. A child with no school, no uniform, no classroom yet rich in gratitude. With empty hands, he gave the only thing he had, simply to say thank you.
This is not just appreciation.
This is a quiet cry from a forgotten place and proof that hope, when it finally arrives, is recognized even by the smallest hearts.
