My dog, Great Dane, will eat the chickens feed…. So I guess my hen has finally had enough of this. Dog went out this morning and went to the feed. My hen chased her away, backed her into a corner. My dog is outside crying in the corner scared.

Husband calls for the dog. The dog try’s to make her escape and gets a peck to the butt. She pushes passed my husband and is crying at the door to get inside, open the door and she runs to the couch shaking.

Big dog scared of a tiny little fluffy hen.

The only group that would understand my heartbreak of waiting 7 months for my favorite Wheaten Olive Egger to lay a beautiful olive green egg, only to find out she lays brown 💔💔

I received 13 chicks early last week from Cackle Hatchery. 6 Easter Eggers and 7 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. All arrived healthy and happy and have stayed healthy! A couple pasty butts for the first few days, but outside of that, it has been very uneventful (thankfully!). I used a heat lamp in a smaller brooder box for the first 5 days, but then moved them to the pictured area when they started to get stir crazy in the smaller enclosure and seemed not to need so much heat.

I know a lot a people are getting chicks right now, so I hope this post is an encouragement! They are so fun and it is endlessly entertaining to watch them!

OK, chicken peeps, my chicken this morning look like she was in a trance, but seemed fine. Crown was good. She was chirping. I left for about an hour came back and she was faced down in her nesting box with mucousy stuff coming out of her mouth. does anyone know what could have possibly happened? She had not started laying eggs yet, but she was about 26 weeks old.

It has been past time for these eggs to hatch in the incubator. So I decided to open one up to see if they had even started developing. This Lil guy was dead, when I started opening the shell. Are the rest probably dead too? What could have caused it? The shell was very hard to Crack open. Could that be the issue? Or is it most likely too much humidity? This is the first time I have tried incubating, since I was a child, and my dad did it. I got these eggs from a feed store. They guy said they are free range. I did not ask him if they were fertile. I just thought I would try. This is making me very sad. I took the automatic Turner out on the 22nd day. I just don't understand how it could develop so much, then be dead... 😢 I started them on June 2nd.

Hello everyone! So, earlier today as I was driving to my physical therapy appointment, we noticed a chicken walking down the road. My daughter instantly, was like, “We need to go save it!” I said, “If it’s still there and if you can safely catch it. Maybe after my appointment.” Well, she was still there, walking down the road. We asked around if she belong to anyone. We stopped a walker, and she’s never seen a chicken on that road. So, we now have a chicken.
I have no experience with chickens, other from what I’m picking up from being in this amazing group! Please! Give me all your first time advice!! What do I need to get her for now, till I can afford a proper coop. What can I and can’t I feed her?
Pictures are of my daughter with her new chicken 🐓 She named her Barbie. Australian for Barbecue 😅 (We aren’t Australian lol just Bluey fans)
Side note: Why is her beak that shape? Is she ok?
