Les-eng Rice Terraces, Tacadang.

One of the places in the Cordillera that truly caught me by surprise with its beauty.

Between 2019 and 2021, I often rode solo through the Cordillera, sometimes spending up to a week just wandering from one place to another. Every corner of the region holds a kind of beauty quietly kept, waiting to be discovered.

Tacadang is one of those places I long to return to. Behind me are the Les-eng Rice Terraces—perhaps the largest rice terraces I have ever seen. They remind me of the Batad Rice Terraces, which I visited back in 2021, carrying the same quiet grandeur and timeless presence carved into the mountains.

KTM 390 Adventure R

On its very first outing, it was pushed hard right away—425 kilometers in one go, from Pateros to Vigan. Twice, it stalled before we even got out of Pateros.

It is noticeably slimmer compared to the old 390, which felt bulky, almost carabao-like. It is also taller than the previous 390, making it unsuitable for shorter riders, especially on trails.

Power? It can be fairly compared to the MT450.

Aesthetically, it is undeniably sexy—from the rear all the way to the front. The face finally looks like a proper motorcycle. Thankfully, they abandoned the carabao-inspired look of the old 390.

The exhaust, however, is a letdown. It feels like even a handspan of floodwater would be enough to drown it. This makes it impractical for flood-prone Metro Manila and risky for river crossings, especially places like Kinabuan Falls.

It is not expressway-friendly.

Why?

The handlebar wiggle is excessive. If your arms and hands relax even slightly—soft as vegetables—you’ll feel like you’re washing clothes at speed, just moments before being thrown off on the expressway.

In my opinion, this is due to poor aerodynamics and a tall, upright front end. It catches the wind head-on, taking the full force of it.

But everything changes once you’re in the mountains or on the trail. The power is there. It isn’t heavy—just right for me. And its slim profile, reminiscent of a young T7, is exactly what I loved about it.

I’m eager to test it on the trail, even if it’s just in Kinapuin.

Thank you, boss Mhelo Mhelo.moto for trusting me with your 390 Adventure R and for letting me be part of its break-in.

December 26

Sky, Rica’s mom, and I went on a trip to Tanay.

“Ma, have you ever been to Tanay? Have you seen the Sierra Madre Mountains?” I asked her.

“Not yet,” she replied.

“Come on, Ma, let’s go there. We’ll have lunch there,” I said.

As we traveled along Marilaque Highway, she was completely in awe of the Sierra Madre mountains. She is from Samar, and it was her first time seeing the vast mountain ranges of the Sierra Madre.

I kept calling out to Sky, while noticing that Rica’s mother had grown quiet, her eyes fixed on the mountains of the Sierra Madre.

I said to her, “Ma, there are parts of the Sierra Madre where we ride our motorcycles. Many Dumagat and Aeta communities live there. What you’re seeing is only about two percent of it—it stretches all the way to Aurora,” I told her.

December 27

Our group from Valleyview Executive Village organized a simple outreach activity to bring joy to the children of Kanlungan ng Kabataan in Antipolo.

We combined our Christmas Party with this visit, sharing the celebration with the children at the shelter.

In front were our own children, singing and performing for the youths under the care of the orphanage.

The gathering went smoothly and was filled with warmth and laughter. One could clearly see the joy reflected in the children’s smiles.

November 30,
5:15pm

Where darkness and daylight struggle in the sky.

The sky softly weeping with rain.

I glance out the window
and there, suspended in the dim light,
two rainbows unfold across the heavens.

I call Sky to come and see.
The moment his eyes find the colors,
he gasps,
“Wooow… rainbow!”

“Look, Papa,” she says, pointing upward,
“there’s an airplane
flying toward the rainbow.”

And so I raise my camera—
to capture the arc of fading light,
the quiet rain,
the white plane drifting across the sky,
and the wonder reflected
in my child’s voice.

November 15, 2025

After spending a night in Ilocos for the 10th Ilocos Invitational Ride, our group headed to Boss Mhelo’s rest house in Pangasinan.

Where we spent another night before going home on Sunday.

It was incredibly relaxing. We spent the entire afternoon catching catfish and tilapia.

By nightfall, we set up a bonfire near the tent.

It was a day to remember—simple living, pure joy.

Thank you boss Mhelo.moto!
