~ The word โ€œGododโ€ refers to a pre-planting ritual practiced by the Subanen natives in the locality in the early years of the 20th Century, in preparation for the planting season of the first cropping. This was performed before by a rich-farmer Chieftain named Ginowa. In doing so, he will pour water in the midst of his warehouse filled with farm produced while the villagers will be watching for the first drop of water that will pass through the bamboo slats flooring. Whoever among the villagers gets that first drop of water, will have an abundant harvest as of Ginowa. For the natives then, the word GODOD means Pouring of Graces or Shower of Blessings. After the death of Ginowa, the place was named Godod to honor their chieftain.

The place known as Godod was once a vast wilderness in the hinterlands of the interior-southern portion of the Province of Zamboanga del Norte.

On December 2, 1964, Presidential Proclamation No. 1526 was signed into law by the late President Diosdado Macapagal declaring a 15,000- hectare Agro-Forestry Estate in the province covering four (4) municipalities; namely: Labason, Liloy, Salug and Sindangan.

It was created into a barangay under the political jurisdiction of the Municipality of Salug by virtue of Provincial Board Resolution No. 196 dated September 6, 1967.

During the implementation of Proclamation No. 1526 in year 1977, Godod became the seat of the Zamboanga del Norte Resettlement Project under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Agrarian Reform, now the department.

The municipality of Godod has acquired its juridical personality as a municipality by virtue of Batas Pambansa Bilang 146 signed by the Late President Ferdinand E. Marcos dated February 8, 1982. It consists the seventeen southern Barangays of the Municipality of Salug, namely: Godod (now the Poblacion), Baluno, Banuangan, Bunawan, Delucot, Dipopor, Guisapong, Limbonga, Lomogom, Mauswagon, Miampic, Raba, Rambon, San Pedro, Sarawagan, Sianan and Sioran.
