Behind every exciting moment during the intramurals, there is a team of students who dedicate their time and skills to capture the spirit of this exciting event. Their goal is to preserve stories by capturing and crafting them into a beautiful and meaningful piece. Given that this role requires skills and the right assessment as to what moment to include in the story, Photojournalists and Videographers already have challenging jobs. However, their work is often misunderstood; making their role even more challenging than it already is.
Sadly, many students see photojournalists and videographers as personal photographers constantly asking casual requests like โkuya, picture-ri miโ or โKuya, kanus-a man ipost among picture?โ. While these requests are harmless, they divert attention from the true purpose of the photo and video journalists. They are not personal photographers and Videographers, they intend to capture moments and craft these images and clips to create stories.
"If you're wondering how small requests like this can distract them, here's why:"
Photojournalists and videographers are covering multiple events at once due to limited volunteers and talents. Their focus is to capture critical moments that will help them create the piece they have in mind as events continue to unfold during the intramurals. These tasks alone are more than what they can handle, additional requests no matter how friendly they may seem distract them from their true purpose and can cause them to miss important shots.
Our call as journalists is for you to let them focus on their tasks. Do not hold anything against them if your โlittleโ requests are not granted. Please support our photojournalists and videographers by giving them the creative space they need to craft meaningful stories that preserve the spirit of intramurals.
