Sampaguita Gardens Resort in New Washington, Aklan, was founded by American artist Samuel John Butcher, creator of the famous Precious Moments figurines. After visiting the Philippines, Butcher started building the 2.6-hectare resort in December 2001, and it opened in June 2003, featuring a year-round Christmas display and iconic doll collections.

Sampaguita Gardens Resort in Aklan officially closed on September 1, 2019, following a decline in maintenance and without an official public statement regarding the reasons for the shutdown. The 16-year-old attraction ceased operations, with its extensive collection of Precious Moments items subsequently removed or sold.

The legacy of Sampaguita Gardens and its late creator, Samuel John Butcher, remains deeply woven into the local culture, tourism history, and economic development of New Washington, Aklan. Even after its closure, its impact is remembered.
