Guru Nityananda

Lord Nityananda is guru. He can instruct us, but ultimately it depends on the disciple. A doctor may say, 'Do this,' 'Do not do this,' but if the patient does not follow the prescription, what is the result? Similarly, Nityananda Prabhu will hear the prayer of an insincere rascal, if that rascal actually wants to change his condition. One must agree not to be a rascal any more, then his rascaldom can be reformed. Jagai and Madhai begged the Lord for His mercy and they were prototype rascals, drunkards and debauchees. Lord Caitanya told them 'First you stop your nonsense activities, then I will accept you.' So a rascal may be accepted provided he agrees to stop his nonsenses. Otherwise, how can one expect to be reformed if he does not agree or like to be reformed? To be reformed, he must agree to the reforming process.

NANDA BAITHAK: where the decision was made to worship Shri Govardhan

Nandagaon is Krishna’s childhood village, where he lived until he was twelve years old. At every corner in Nandagaon, there are places associated with Krishna lila – Pawan Sarovar where Mother Yashoda used to bathe Krishna; Moti kund, where Krishna made pearls grow on trees to decorate his cows and tease the gopis who had refused to give him pearls, and, of course, Nanda Bhavan, the temple on top of the hill, which marks the site of the residence of Shri Krishna and His family. Nandagaon was named after, the head of the village, Nandababa, and Nanda Baithak is the place where Nandababa held meetings with townsfolk. According to local legend, it was here that the young Krishna presented the case to worship Govardhan instead of Lord Indra. It is also thought that Krishna and Balaram left to go to Mathura from this place. It was here that they boarded Akrurji’s chariot to attend the wrestling match in Mathura, which led to the liberation of Braj from the cruel reign of king Kamsa. Nanda Baithak was uncovered only 90 years ago by Sant Haridas who had a vision of Krishna and Balaram sitting in Nandababa’s lap surrounded by townsfolk. From this vision, he understood that this must be the place where Nandababa held official meetings. Sant Haridas painted the scene from his dream vision on the wall. The painting was destroyed, but it was replicated by a painter who had seen the original. Sant Haridasji passed away 50 years ago. His Samadhi and the replica painting of his vision is at Nanda Baithak. There is also a kund here called Nanda Kund. Until a few decades ago, the water from this kund was used in the temple kitchen.

The Haridev Temple, near Manasi-ganga, was established by Krishna's great-grandson 4,800 years ago. Haridev is one of the four presiding Deities of Vrindavan. The temple is a two-minute walk from the southern bank of Manasi-ganga.

King Vajranabha the great grand son of Lord Krishna established this deity 5,000 years ago

The temple was built by King Bhagandas of Jaipur, whose son, Rajaman Singh, built the Govindaji Temple in the sixteenth century during the reign of Emperor Akbar.

The original Deity of Harideva was moved to the town of Rajdhani near Kanpur when Aurangzeb sent his soldiers to destroy the Deities and temples of Vraja. But the Deity is no longer in Rajdhani, and nobody knows where it is.

One day Srimati Radharani and the gopis were waiting for Krisna to come and meet them. As they were waiting, the gopis started to feel intense separation from Krisna and they began to chant: "Haridev, Haridev, Haridev!" over and over again and their feeling intensified to the point of almost giving up their lives. Suddenly Krisna appeared in this beautiful Deity form of seven-year-old boy holding Govardhan Hill in His left hand and flute in the other. The ecstasy of Radharani and the gopis knew no bounds. Since than Radharani and gopis would come here every day and worshiped Govardhana-natha Haridev with many offerings.

„Mad with ecstatic love, the Lord came to the village known as Govardhan. It was there that He saw the Deity of Harideva and offered His obeisances..... then He began to dance before the Deity. Hearing of the Lord's wonderful activities, all people came to see Him...”
(Caitanya-caritamrita 18.17.20)

Sri Haridev is presiding Deity of Giriraj-Govardhan and no Govardhana-parikrama is complete without His darshan.
