370Z's chassis. 300ZX's rear. 240Z's finesse.
The Z's design DNA is arguably the most consistent identity in the market. While most lineups, even Nissan's own, would shift with price brackets or trends, the Z badge has never been seen in a different philosophy. Front-engine, rear-wheel drive. But as it stands as an automatic-only, the community remains divided on whether it truly remains driver-centric, or if Nissanβs pursuit of performance benchmarks have redefined what that philosophy means today.
The design team was determined to pay homage to Mr. Matsuo's magnum opus, the Fairlady 240Z. In particular, Mr. Ohkoshi has cited his early exposure to the Fairlady Z as formative in his design career. His father brought him a Nissan catalogue with a yellow Fairlady Z when he was three. That moment sparked a lifelong fascination with form and proportion, now going full circle in a forged love letter to Fairlady enthusiasts, and enhanced by Nismo technology.
Like any Nismo trim, it features more aggressive lines and angles for improved aerodynamics. Nissan's thinnest honeycomb mesh, side canards and sills for localized downforce, among other performance-focused features all framed by Nismoβs signature red accent skirt line.
