If you put your 50,000 in the bank for time deposit, the highest interest they can give you is 1% every year (most banks give less than 1%). After 1 year you will have 50,500.

If you invest your 50,000 in mutual funds which will give you 10%-12% interest rate after a year you will have 56,000.
