You will know Attabad Lake for its beauty but have you ever wondered what happened to those people who lost their homes and livelihoods in the disaster that created this beautiful landmark?

A whole village was destroyed because of a disastrous landslide that ultimately created the lake we see here today.

The government announced relief but never delivered on that promise and when a group of men held a peaceful protest, the police responded by brutally killing a father and his son and arresting the remaining 14 members. The Attabad disaster took place on 4 January 2010. These men have been in prison since 2011, as the government deemed them anti-state and jailed them.

I have never seen a single friends, photographers, social media activitists, or celebrity, or political leader, highlight the story of these political prisoners of Hunza.

While many of my friends from all Pakistan visit Hunza for the spectacular landscape, photography and enjoyment, I urge you all not to forget our human rights and stories. Please re-post and share, and raise awareness through your own platforms my friends ✌🏼
