Kiir relieves, appoints new undersecretaries in government reshuffle

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has relieved several undersecretaries and appointed new ones in a fresh government reshuffle, according to a press release issued on March 27, 2026.

Those relieved include:
1. Dr. Chol Deng T. Abel, Ministry of Petroleum

2. Kuol Daniel Ayulo, 1st Undersecretary, Ministry of Finance

3. Mary Hillary Wani, Ministry of East African Community Affairs

4. Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko Baime, Ministry of Health

New appointments include:

1. Dr. Santino Ayuel Longar, Ministry of Petroleum

2. Malual Tap Dieu, 1st Undersecretary, Ministry of Finance

3. Kawaja Kau Madol, Ministry of East African Community Affairs

4. Dr. Oromo Francis Seriano, Ministry of Health

The changes take immediate effect, with the president thanking outgoing officials for their service.

Law firm petitions justice minister over detention of former vice president Benjamin

Lawyers from Kiirdit & Co. Advocates have petitioned the Ministry of Justice seeking urgent intervention over the continued house arrest of former vice president Benjamin Bol Mel.

According to a criminal motion seen by Hot in Juba, the law firm argues that Benjamin has been held incommunicado for about 120 days since his arrest on the night of November 12, 2025.

The filing states that the former vice president was arrested at his residence by government security agencies and has remained under house arrest without being formally charged or presented before any competent court.

In the motion, the lawyers ask the justice minister to advise the government and its agencies to show cause why Benjamin continues to be detained without investigation or trial.

They also want authorities to allow the former vice president access to his immediate family members, lawyers and medical doctors.

The petition further requests that Benjamin be produced before a competent court if there is sufficient evidence linking him to any offence.

In the motion, Kiirdit & Co. Advocates argue that the prolonged detention violates constitutional rights including personal liberty, protection from torture and the right to a fair trial as provided for in the Transitional Constitution.

The lawyers also allege that during the detention their client has been denied visits from family members, lawyers and doctors and has been subjected to harsh conditions.

They claim that some of his private properties, including houses and vehicles, were seized by security agencies without a court order.

The legal team further states that Benjamin is seriously ill and has not received adequate medical attention, warning that his life could be at risk if urgent action is not taken.

The advocates argue that the continued detention without due process amounts to illegal detention and abuse of power by state agencies.

SPLM swears in new national youth league chairperson

The SPLM 1st Deputy Chairman, James Wani Igga, on Tuesday presided over the swearing-in of Puok Bol Par as the new National Chairperson of the SPLM Youth League at the SPLM House in Juba.

Speaking after taking the oath, Puok thanked President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Chairman of the SPLM, for the confidence placed in him, describing the appointment as a responsibility rather than a personal achievement. He pledged to serve the party with humility, discipline, and commitment.

Puok said his priority would be to mobilize and empower young people across the country, noting that the youth remain central to strengthening the SPLM at the grassroots and advancing its political vision.

He also called for unity within the Youth League leadership, stressing the importance of teamwork, inclusivity, and collective responsibility in serving the party and the people of South Sudan.

The ceremony was attended by senior SPLM officials and members of the party’s National Secretariat.

Undersecretary in General Education dismissed as President Kiir appoints Omot Okony

The Undersecretary in the Ministry of General Education and Instruction has been dismissed, with President Salva Kiir appointing Omot Okony Olok Guon as the new Undersecretary, replacing Kachuol Mabil Piok.

Before his appointment, Omot served for many years as Director General of the National Curriculum Development Centre.
