🚨..19km Feeder Road Between Marial Baai and Chelkou Launched.
A 19-kilometer feeder road connecting Marial Baai and Chelkou in Aweil West County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, has been officially launched. The project was funded by the European Union and implemented by the World Food Programme (WFP) in partnership with AFO.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Chelkou, the European Union Ambassador to South Sudan, H.E Per Enar Enarsson, said it was an honor to hand over the EU-funded feeder road, along with rural irrigation and water yard projects, to the state government and local communities.
“This handover reflects the European Union’s continued support to the people of Aweil through partnerships that promote sustainable development and peace resilience in South Sudan,” he said.
The State Minister of Lands, Housing, and Public Utilities, Hon. Dominic Kang Deng, confirmed the official handover of the feeder road constructed in Aweil West County, particularly in Chelkou Boma of Gomjuer West Payam.
He noted that the ceremony was attended by Acting Governor Dr. Tong Lual Ayat, the EU Ambassador, and representatives from various state ministries.
The WFP Country Director, Adam Effendi, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the delegation. He also thanked the European Union for funding impactful development projects.
“I thank the government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and the communities of Chelkou for their cooperation during the construction of the feeder road between Marial Baai and Chelkou,” he said.
The AFO representative in Aweil also expressed gratitude to the government and EU delegation for their commitment in delivering the project.
He highlighted additional initiatives implemented by AFO, including a project on pastoralism and livestock adaptation to climate change in Eastern Africa. This includes solar-powered multipurpose boreholes in Amethou Boma, Gomjuer Payam.
