President Salva Kiir Mayardit has formed an Ebola Preparedness Committee tasked with strengthening the countryโs preparedness and preventive measures to ensure the Ebola virus does not enter South Sudan.
The committee brings together senior government officials, health authorities, security institutions, academia, religious leaders, and civil society representatives to coordinate national preparedness, surveillance, prevention, and response efforts.
The committee is composed as follows:
1. Minister of Health โ Chairperson
2. Executive Director, National Public Health Institute (NPHI) โ Secretary
3. Undersecretary, Ministry of Health โ Member
4. Undersecretary for Planning, Ministry of Finance and Planning โ Member
5. Undersecretary, Ministry of Wildlife Conservation and Tourism โ Member
6. Inspector General of Police โ Member
7. Chief of Defence Forces, SSPDF โ Member
8. Director General, Internal Security Bureau, NSS โ Member
9. Vice Chancellor, University of Juba โ Member
10. Two Representatives of Religious Leaders โ Members
11. Representative, Civil Society Alliance โ Member
The committee is expected to coordinate preparedness measures, strengthen surveillance and early detection, enhance public health coordination, and support the countryโs efforts to prevent and respond effectively to any potential Ebola threat.
