Unfortunately our tour to Greenland/Svalbard didn't start very well due to the fact that the ice-drift was very unusual. We had to take a totally different route passing Jan Mayen (an island right between Iceland and Svalbard. When we reached Svalbard we tried as hard as we can to look for polar bears along the ice edge - without success. As soon as we reached land again we heard "POLAR BEAR". Within a second everyone of us on the ship was excited and went on deck to see what was going on. It turned out to be two bears - a mother and a young. As we got closer we decided to jump in the zodiacs to approach them even closer. At the end we were about 35-40 meters away and I managed to photograph them as good as I could on the moving zodiac. Both of them looked very healthy. If you look closely the young even has a whale-bone or something in his mouth - I can not tell exactly. So they must have fed on something shortly.

INTO THE ICE

It has been ages since my last post here on Facebook! Sorry for that guys! A lot of things happened over the last months. First of all I became father of a cute girl, secondly we (me and my girlfriend) are building house (obviously we need more space :) ) and usual daywork has to be done as well.
Never the less we managed to stay 2 weeks on the east coast of Greenland during mid of July on a small ship, the MS Cape Race, shown in the picture.
The first two days of the trip really started amazing, but as soon as we started our way up north our tour got messed up by a very unusual ice drift which made landings in Greenland impossible. So we had 7 days facing rough sea all the way up to Svalbard.
Hope to share some more Images here soon!

This is my first ever photograph of the Aurora Borealis taken close to the city of Tromsø two days ago.
It was about 9:30 pm, just after dinner, when one of the guides came in and said that there was some Aurora activity going on. We immediately jumped up rushed to our room and picked up our equipment.
For about 45 min the Sky turned green and we started taking pictures. For us it was without a doubt the most impressive natural experience ever!

I cannot believe this trip is already 3 years ago! Definitely one of the best wildlife experience in my life! We had some incredible jaguar sightings, with the highlight of a successful hunt.
Pantanal, you haven't seen me for the last time, for sure!

This was a trip focused on Jaguar in the Pantanal and "Einstein monkeys" close to Barreiras. We finished the journey with a day-tour in Rio de Janeiro

Glacier ice stranded on the coast close to Jökulsarlon. An incredible glacier lagoon. This very compressed old ice shines blue due to the fact that all the oxygen got squashed out.

Ice and Steam

Shot this panorama in Kerlingarfjöll almost in the middle of Iceland, between the glaciers Hofsjökull and Langjökull. Loved the hike there! The little river in front is actually fed by a glacier but a lot of hot springs let the temperature increase to about 40 ° celsius. The sulphureous smell in some places is absolutely nasty.
