Built by Emperor Akbar, it holds an incredible, yet bittersweet story 💔. Its beauty masks its history as a royal prison ⛓️. It was here, looking out at his masterpiece, that Shah Jahan—the builder of the Taj Mahal—spent his final years, imprisoned by his own son.

Birthday Activity: The Taj Mahal 🕍 (Post 12)

This was it. 🌅 Up before the sun, leaving the comfort of our ITC hotel 🏨, knowing we were just minutes away from the main event. A big highlight of our trip to India 🇮🇳—the reason we made the long journey—was finally here: The Taj Mahal. ✨

Our guide and driver picked us up right on time. 🚗 We headed straight for the wonder of the world, arriving while it was barely daylight. Yet, the energy was already palpable. ⚡ There was a quiet, collective buzz from all the early visitors, sharing the same focused anticipation.

Stepping through the massive sandstone gate is a moment of pure magic. 🤩 The Taj Mahal isn't fully visible at first, but when it's revealed, perfectly framed by the arch... it stops you dead. 😲 From a distance, the scale of the mausoleum is instantly impressive, floating like a pearl in the dawn light.

But up close is where you truly understand the beauty and the fuss. It's not just a big white dome. The walls are covered in intricate pietra dura—thousands of meticulously cut pieces of jade, crystal, and lapis lazuli embedded into the marble. 💎 It is a monument built with impossible precision.

It’s magnificent! No photo, no video, no virtual tour can truly do it justice. 📸🚫

This building, this legacy, demands your physical presence. You have to stand here, feel the atmosphere, and witness the marble shift color with the rising sun. 🧡💖 It was so incredibly special, the perfect culmination of our time in India. The Beautiful ITC Mughal Resort & Spa, Agra 🏨 (Post 11)

Hello, Agra! Checking into the home of the Taj Mahal. 🕌 The staff at the ITC Mughal gave us such a warm welcome, dressed beautifully in traditional clothes! I instantly felt like royalty stepping into this hotel, which is decorated entirely in the magnificent Mughal King style. Getting beautiful welcome scarves was the perfect touch! ✨

Our Royal Mughal Suite was so comfortable and spacious. I loved the sweetest welcome gift: a chocolate statue of the Taj Mahal! 🍫 After a short peek at the main road (so much traffic! 🚧), it was amazing to retreat back to our five-star hotel oasis.

Hotel comfort out, Indian rail adventure in! 👋 We left Novotel New Delhi City Centre Hotel and headed to Hazrat Nizamuddin (NZM) for our train to Agra.

The station itself was a sensory overload! It took some serious navigating to find our platform, requiring extra attention to our bags amid the crowds. 👀 Our reward? A cool, air-conditioned carriage with spacious seats, and the best travel perks: chai tea and snacks! ☕ A pleasant 2-3 hour journey that added serious adventure points to the whole trip. 💯
