Facebook/Meta, demonstrated photorealistic avatars.

Yaser Sheikh, Director of Facebook Reality Labs in Pittsburgh, showed Meta's new codec avatars. These new avatars are full-height and have the photorealistic looks of a person they represent. Codec Avatars is an active research project today, but it could radically change the way we connect through VR headsets and AR glasses tomorrow.
