A look back at the winter of 2025–2026 in Ukraine. It is highly unlikely many will miss it. Russia deliberately targeted civilian energy infrastructure, repeatedly leaving millions without access to electricity and heating in freezing temperatures. It could be tempting to put the whole experience behind and forget it, if not for the fact that the next winter will come. It is yet to be determined what it will look like by then. This winter, however, as bad as it was, Ukraine resisted and withstood it.

Eastern Ukraine, where the frontline now entered another region of the country - Dnipropetrovsk.

Andriy, soldier on the last photograph shows a scar where he used to have a tattoo of the Ukrainian trident. Russian forces cut it out with a knife when he was detained in his home region in 2022 after a neighbour reported that he had fought in Donbas in 2014 where he was wounded. After the detention and the torture he endured there Andriy was free again when occupants withdrew from his region and now he is fighting once more. Andriy said when he loads the shells, he thinks about the interrogators who were cutting out his skin with the Ukrainian symbol. In many ways, Andriy and his experiences are an embodiment of the recent history of Ukraine and he holds little illusions that the Russians will be willing to stop. While media are filled with unfortunately futile news about peace negotiations, Andriy loads another round of 155mm artillery shell into the M777 howitzer as perhaps the most effective method of stopping the Russian forces from advancing deeper into another region of Ukraine.

It is hard to believe, but today we lost a dedicated photojournalist and a friend, dear Antoni Lallican... He was targeted by a Russian fpv drone.

Kyiv today. Cruise missiles and drones sent from Russia continue to terrorise, injure and kill people in Ukraine.

Demonstrations in Ukraine continue against the law taking away the independence of anti corruption bodies.

Many protesters question the motives behind this rapidly adopted legislation and see it as a disappointing betrayal of the hard-earned progress achieved during the Maidan Revolution which brought these institutions to life. While unprosecuted corruption remains a problem, people protesting argue that undermining the independence of these bodies is not a solution, but a significant step backward, which sparked mass protests and urgent calls for the president to reverse his decision.

Protests erupted in Kyiv against the law stripping the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office of their independence. An unpopular decision triggered resistance among Ukrainians and sparked biggest protests during full scale war so far.

Russian drone strike on apartment block in Kyiv.

In one of the most targeted district of the city, Lukyanivka, even the underground metro where people try to hide from the attacks is continuously being damaged. This is the sixth time.
