How much does a gorilla trekking permit cost?

I still remember travelers getting shocked by permit prices after planning everything else first. Gorilla permits are the key part of your safari budget. Uganda costs $800, Rwanda $1,500, and Congo around $400–$500. Every permit gives you one unforgettable hour with a habituated gorilla family.

True Meaning of Warrior, fight for those who can’t fight for themselves

I still get emotional watching Virunga’s rangers risk everything for mountain gorillas. This isn’t tourism alone. It’s sacrifice. More than 200 rangers have died protecting wildlife in eastern Congo since 1925. Because of their courage, mountain gorilla numbers have more than doubled since the 1980s. That’s what real conservation looks like.

What are 10 interesting facts about gorillas?

I still get amazed every time I meet mountain gorillas in the wild. Over 1,000 remain, they share 98% of our DNA, communicate with 16 calls, and live in close family groups. Watching them eat, play, and build nests feels unreal every single time.

Which country is best for gorilla trekking?

I get this question all the time—and choosing isn’t easy. Rwanda gives you shorter, easier treks in Volcanoes National Park. Uganda feels wilder and more adventurous in Bwindi and Mgahinga. Both are unforgettable. It depends on your budget, fitness, and travel style.

As scary as this was, gorillas are remarkably composed and non-violent as far as wild animals go. Violence is rarely their first resort

The money helps keep poachers from killing the gorillas.
Every one that gets upset at these videos need to come up with a better solution if they don’t like the one hour per day trekkes. Options and slim, and everyone is doing what they can to make it work. There is no interaction on the human side, they aren’t destroying habitat, they are respectful of the gorillas. If you asked the gorillas, I think they would be Ok with this situation if it meant poachers won’t come in the middle of the night and slaughter them, if they had guides to help them with injuries that could cause death, if they get to keep the rest of the habitat to live in without further destruction. Seriously, humans are doing their best. I can’t see any evidence that this one hour a day trekkes are to make people rich and they are exploiting these magnificent gorillas. They are not put in zoos or cages. How do you suggest they take care of the animals and habitat?

Chimpanzees in Uganda’s Kibale National Park elect new leader after years of leadership battle

Nature can feel brutal sometimes. I’ve followed the Kibale chimpanzees for years, and watching this long leadership battle unfold was intense. Rukara has finally emerged as alpha after two years of fear, conflict, and rivalry. It’s a reminder that chimpanzee societies are complex, political, and deeply human-like.

Experience Uganda’s wild side beyond gorillas with chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park.

Do gorillas have a strong smell?

Males, especially silverbacks, release a strong odor when excited or threatened to communicate with other gorillas. Scientists have also learned that each gorilla's nose print—the pattern of ridges and wrinkles around the nostrils—is unique, much like a human fingerprint

Is Uganda cheaper than Rwanda for gorilla trekking?

I remember comparing both destinations and feeling shocked by the price gap. Uganda wins for budget travelers. Gorilla permits cost about $700 less than Rwanda, and accommodation choices are far more affordable too. You still get the same unforgettable mountain gorilla encounter in the wild.
