Cheetahs are by far the hardest big cat to see in Greater Kruger, in my experience. It was only halfway through my month-long Kruger adventure that i finally encountered my first cheetah in Manyeleti game Reserve. I then went on to have 3 separate cheetah sightings within Manyeleti, this one being my favourite.

On our last morning in Manyeleti we stumbled upon a mother cheetah and her three sub-adult cubs feeding on a freshly killed impala. They polished off their meal pretty quickly before grooming one another and then striding across the plains. It was the perfect end to my time in Manyeleti.

This has got to be my favourite lion sighting to date! We were so fortunate to bump into the Othawa lion pride several times during our stay in Sabi Sand Game Reserve. On one occasion the three cubs were extremely playful and put on a real show for us. This sequence of photos shows one of my favourite moments as two cubs tussle with one another. I could have watched them play all day!

Sabi Sand Game Reserve in South Africa is said to be the kingdom of leopards. And whilst I expected some leopard encounters, nothing could have quite prepared me for both the frequency and quality of sightings.

This was my first leopard sighting in Sabi Sand, towards the end of my first afternoon game drive. The lighting was perfect, the sun dipping lower in the sky and casting a golden glow over the bushveld.

This beautiful leopardess is known as Basile. She has an unusually pale coat which was really glowing this evening!

This was a very special sighting in Olifants West Nature Reserve. It was our second evening there and we were driving through a dense area when suddenly I noticed a leopard in a tree. As soon as I pointed it out the leopard leapt to the ground and fled into the bushes. I have no idea how they did it but our guide and tracker worked together to determine the direction that the leopard went in. I thought it was a hopeless pursuit but suddenly, there the leopard was! We got this fleeting glimpse before it melted into the shadows.

It was on our third day in Timbavati that we came across our first African wild dogs of the trip. They were resting after a successful morning hunt. As we were sitting with them, an impala appeared in the distance. The dogs didn't hesitate. In a flash they were up and chasing the impala, startling a group of giraffes in the process who then proceeded to run in slow motion. As the dogs had full bellies they didn't put their full effort into the chase and were unsuccessful. It was a lucky day for the impala!

On our fourth night in Timbavati, just as the sun had set behind the Drakensburg mountains, we encountered this lion pride enjoying a fresh baby giraffe kill that they made earlier in the day. The fading light allows for some quite moody photo opportunities.

Some safari BTS!

Tea breaks and sundowners πŸŒ… When on safari in South Africa, you are given the opportunity to stop for refreshments on both your morning and afternoon game drive. In the morning you can enjoy hot drinks and some sweet snacks like biscuits and in the afternoon it's time for something cold and refreshing as well as my favourite snack in the world, biltong!

On our first evening in Timbavati Game Reserve in South Africa we were fortunate enough to encounter five lions as they became active for the evening. Watching them walk towards us, bathed in golden light, really was a magical 'pinch me' moment and the perfect welcome to Timbavati and South Africa.

The underground hide at in Timbavati provided me with a fantastic opportunity to capture these elephants from a low vantage point and in a way which didn't disturb their natural behaviour. During our 4 night stay at King's Camp, we were lucky enough to encounter numerous herds coming down for a drink at the waterhole. These are some of my favourite photos of them!

First one from my recent South African adventure πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦

We came upon this female leopard on our second evening whilst staying at King's Camp in Timbavati Game Reserve. She was intently stalking a group of impala. However, her cover was blown as a group of elephants arrived and chased her off. She retreated to a nearby drainage line where she rested, waiting for the impala to forget about her and for darkness to fall before trying again.

This will be my final post of 2025. I can't believe how fast the year has flown by. I swear each year time seems to speed up. But I can look back on this year fondly, knowing I made the most of it. I spent 16 weeks travelling to 8 different countries this year, two countries of which were brand new for me, and 11 of those 16 weeks were spent in my absolute favourite continent - Africa.

I have some pretty exciting plans for 2026 already. But sometimes it's the unexpected things that make a year truly special, so I'm keen to see where 2026 takes me πŸ’«

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and wish you the best for 2026! 🍾
