Hey all, I’m jumping back in.
I’ll continue sharing stories of those in need, along with some of the other stuff I’m working on.
This is one of those stories.
Mario Woods and Michael Johnson were young Air Force Security Policemen when their lives changed in November 1977.
They were guarding a nuclear missile site in South Dakota when they experienced something they still cannot fully explain. Six hours disappeared. They were later found eight miles from their post.
Within weeks, the Air Force separated them.
They would not see each other again for 49 years.
This summer, they finally reunited.
Their story is extraordinary, but this fundraiser is really about two veterans who spent decades carrying the weight of what happened to them.
Mario and Michael served their country. They did what they were trained to do. They responded, observed and reported what they experienced.
And they say they paid a price for it.
Their careers were affected. They were told to keep quiet. For nearly five decades, each man lived without the one person who truly understood what the other had been through.
Today, both are in their 70s and still working blue-collar jobs.
After all these years, they are still working and still trying to make ends meet.
We believe they have carried enough.
Every dollar raised will go directly to Mario and Michael, divided evenly between them, to help give these two veterans some security and comfort in retirement.
You do not have to believe every part of their story to believe they deserve our support.
They served their country. They found each other again after nearly half a century. Now they have a chance to spend the years ahead as friends reunited.
They may never get all the answers they have been looking for.
But we can make sure they know they were heard.
If you can give, thank you.
If you cannot, sharing their story can make a difference too.
