🌂 The Parasol Diaries: Diane Martin

“Quiet, happy life.” That’s what healing looks like for Diane — a strong, soft-spoken survivor whose strength comes from love.

Thrown into the world of autism as a single mom, Diane leaned on her greatest support: her mother. Through heartbreak, divorce, and the unexpected, her journey has been one of quiet endurance and deep family connection.

Her tattoos are living tributes:
🧩 An ankle piece with her sons’ birthstones — Garrett’s set in autism puzzle pieces.
✍🏼 Her mom’s handwriting on one arm.
💐 “Forever my love” on the other, paired with a daylily from her mother’s garden — honoring a fiancé and the woman who held her up.

Each design marks a moment — survival, love, or loss — etched permanently in ink.

🖤 Diane is a reminder that not all battles are loud, but every scar and tattoo tells a story worth hearing.

CHAPTER ONE (The Parasol Diaries)

✨ Meet Maryann ✨
50 years old.
30 years married.
4 sons, 3 daughters-in-law, and 3 beautiful grandbabies. 💙

But my tattoo journey didn’t begin as art…
It began with heartbreak.

🕊️ In 2014, my son Max passed away just 5 days before his 8th birthday.
Kawasaki Disease took him from us in an instant.
He was sweet, loving, and full of imagination—
Always drawing on his arms, saying,
“I’m gonna be a tattoo guy when I grow up!”

Today, I carry him with me in ink. 💔🖤

After Max passed, I struggled.
I stopped driving.
PTSD took over.
I gained weight.
But one thing helped me feel like me again—
Getting tattoos.

Every piece tells part of our story:

🖋️ “One step at a time” – for my son Corey’s epilepsy journey
🌹 A rose with Max’s last heartbeats
✍🏼 His signature from my last Mother’s Day card
🍩 A donut – he was eating one when he passed
💜 “Perfection & Completion” with the number 7
👁️ An eye – one of his last drawings
🎨 A watercolor jellyfish – his last painting, placed on my right shoulder where his little hand used to rest in the hospital
🎭 Darth Vader – his last costume
🦎 Godzilla – the last movie we watched together
✨ Jar of lightning bugs – for Max, my grandma, and my grandpa
🌼 Birth month flowers for our whole family
🐦 Swallow – for my son Nick, Navy
⚓ Anchor & “Eternity” – for my son Stevie, Navy
🌹 A rose on my ring finger – for my hubby
• more: Tinkerbell 🧚, a paintbrush 🎨, black cat 🐈‍⬛, “Lucky You,” & a dragonfly with “I love you more than you know.”

I have over 20 tattoos now, all done at Trademark Body Art.
Each one helps me heal.
Each one helps me breathe.

I’m plus-sized and proud.
Comfortable in front of the camera.
My tattoos are more than ink—
They’re my survival. My love. My Max.
