According to my babysitter, now a firefighter, there was a fire in a bird’s nest and the birds caused a fire at the cotton gin on West Broadway. It was big enough to call in five local fire companies: Altus, Friendship, Blair, Warren and Olustee.
Now, I don’t know if “a bird’s nest,” is cotton talk, firefighter talk or if, YES, some birds really did it?
I don’t care. I got to shoot something and it felt so good!
If you remember, the south end of Altus burned in 1988 when a cotton module caught on fire in 60 MPH winds.
I called home that day from college and my mother said to me, “I’m going to tell you something but DON’T COME HOME!”
I came home.
…and NO, not my baby sitter, NOW! My babysitter when I was like, eight years old. You know, 15 years ago. 😬
