Steve Rizzi Photography Photographs which merge art and science™ Grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. Met my wife at college when we attended Wittenberg University.

We've lived in Annapolis, Maryland, and Melbourne Australia. We have three grown daughters who share my passions for art, education, and science. I spent over 40 years as a technology entrepreneur - focusing on computer algorithms to help humans better understand the world around us -> finding and then understanding the critical needle in an immense stack of wrong needles. I've been taking picture

s my whole life, but now I do it with real purpose. I'm sharing my love of photography with my friends, colleagues, and admirers of the world around us. My pictures are meant to capture the grandeur of nature, as well as its minute detail. I also try to capture unrehearsed moments of being human, and the beauty of man's creations.

I'm very pleased to announce that two of my black and white photographs will be on display at this upcoming show in Sacramento, CA. These photographs are digital captures of images using computer simulations of vintage film stocks - and the results are fantastic.

These two abstract pieces have been accepted at the upcoming Abstract show at the Bristol Art Galeria in Bristol, PA. These are super unique pieces that show off classical darkroom and modern digital techniques in the same piece.

I'm pleased to announce that one of my recently produced works was awarded "Finalist" standing by the CEV Art Gallery in AZ. This piece, entitled "Interstellar," is a 35mm film image taken with the classic film stock Ilford HP5+ at 400 ISO.

While not obvious, the image is of a metal park bench seat taken with a vintage Nikon FE2 film camera and a 60mm macro manual focus lens. The "planets" in the image are actually holes in the metal bench.

The film was darkroom developed and printed on silver halide gelatin paper using a technique known as "solarization" which was made famous by the artist Man Ray in the 1930's. In this technique, the image is exposed in the photographic enlarger and then partially chemically developed before the development process is slowed by a water bath. The paper is then exposed to daylight for about a second before returning to the darkroom and completing the chemical development process.

The resulting developed image expresses an unpredictable inversion of lights and darks in the image, glowing outlines, and unusual effects that are not present in the original film exposure. The completed darkroom print of "Interstellar" was then digitized with a high resolution flatbed scanner and edited to accentuate the solarization effects. The gallery piece was printed on archival Fuji photographic paper from the digital negative.

Weathered Star Formation

Weathered Star Formation presents a large star-shaped assemblage of reclaimed wood and found objects set on a rocky shore with the open ocean as its backdrop. Worn surfaces and layered construction convey a raw, tactile presence that contrasts with the expanse of sea and sky. The piece expresses resilience and the interplay between human making and natural forces, revealing marks of repair and reuse. A distinctive focal work, it will add material depth and quiet drama to a living room, gallery, or outdoor setting.
