My visits to the Chaplin Nature Center never disappoints and this day was no different. I enjoyed a peaceful morning hike while watching several groups of deer and a family of raccoons at the creek. The trails are kept so nice and they are very enjoyable to walk along. One of my favorite places to visit for sure.

Just a few more moments with these beautiful visitors.

I never get tired of watching these Painted Buntings move through the grass, searching and exploring.

They're not always easy to spot, with their light green coloring, but when you slow down and watch for them, you get to see these little glimpses of their everyday lives.

A little grumbling.
A little nudging.
Some head-to-head competition.
A dramatic pawing of the dirt.
And, apparently, a tongue-out for extra emphasis.

Mourning Doves are such a familiar sight around here, but I never get tired of capturing their quiet beauty. I caught this one perched among the branches on a beautiful morning. The soft light really brought out its warm, earthy tones and the hidden color accents that are usually missed.
