Ventral view of a huge female European garden spider (Araneus diadematus) the house of Jody Klaver and my Dad off their back deck. EDIT: This is Trachelas tranquillus, Bullhead sac spider, eating something in my carpet the other night. Updated ID after looking at eye arrangement. My bad. I think it is some arthropod nymph that's under there due to the white/cream coloration. 02SEP2026 in Sturgis, Michigan USA.

This little Eris militaris (bronze jumping spider) pounced on a little white flying insect within seconds of me finding him. He was eating on a table under a park pavillion, so while there was sunlight all around, it was pretty dark where he was having his meal. I used the LED flash ring to lighten things up a bit, which ended up reflecting off his eyes. Those are not spider pupils, folks! 30AUG2026 at Dallas Lake Park.

Found this little lady walking around the couch cushion where my cat Ella frequently sleeps. Phidippus putnami, Putnam's jumping spider, another new-to-me spider. Not a spider! Maize Calligrapher (Toxomerus politus), one of the Syrphidae hoverflies. This one was licking sweat off the rim of my sunglasses when I took a break from mowing the lawn. Since I live near the seed corn capital of the world, I'm not surprised that these guys (they feed on corn pollen) are around. Sturgis, Michigan USA on 21AUG2026.

This European mantis (Mantis religiosa) has set up shop permanently on my patio. They're getting bigger, so they're eating out there. If anyone is wondering, that's a 35 inch Jeep tire on the left side of the photo. Sturgis, Michigan USA on 19AUG2026.

Pretty sure this is a female peppered jumping spider (Pelegrina galathea) on a metal railing in Middlebury, Indiana USA. Krider "World's Fair" Garden Park. The name originates from the Krider Nurseries exhibit featured at Chicago’s 1933–1934 "Century of Progress" World’s Fair. This should be another new-to-me spider. 16AUG2026.
