Happy World Photography Day! I’m sure you know by now that photography means the literal world to me, but it is what has given me the most memorable, unforgettable, life-changing experiences.

Photography has given me so many firsts that, if I’m being honest, probably wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for my camera. I can thank photography for crying in awe underneath the otherworldly dancing aurora borealis, waking up to pristine glacial blue waters while backpacking in Greenland, seeing my favorite mountain under the Milky Way, experiencing an extraordinary sunset wildlife lineup in Africa, and visiting the penguins’ iceberg palaces at the end of the world.

Photography is far more meaningful than social media leads one to believe (to me at least). I owe so much of who I am to photography for giving me the want to not only capture, but to truly immerse myself in this beautiful planet that we adore. I will forever be grateful for that.

Ok who wants to go hang out in the best national park?? Join and me in Mount Rainier National Park this September for our astro and landscape photography workshop! ✨

This place leaves me speechless every time I try to talk about it, but I’ll give it a go… Whew, this park means a great deal to me for several reasons, but it’s such an integral part of how I got my start into nature photography. My first solo hike was here, I shot my first Milky Way photos here, I even took my first landscape photos here, and not a day goes by that I don’t wish that I could be here gazing up at Tahoma (Mt. Rainier). It has such a hold on me that I even named one of my cats after it (swipe for cat tax). I cannot wait to go back and feel that warm, fuzzy feeling like I’ve come home.

Happy Moonday! 🌙 One of the things I love most about the moon is how different it appears and feels over the course of a month.

A crescent moon feels delicate and contemplative. Pair it with flowing water during twilight and you get something that just feels tranquil. A full moon is the opposite. It’s bold and imposing and it demands dramatic landscapes to match. The drama kind of writes itself.

I put together a complete guide on environmental moon photography to explain how to create images where the moon interacts with landscapes instead of being isolated in the frame. It’s something I’ve wanted to make for a while now, and I’m really excited to finally share it with you!

It covers:
- Choosing moon phases for the mood you want
- Camera settings for sharp images
- Planning alignments with tools, like PhotoPills
- What to do when weather rolls in (because it will 😅)
- Post-processing for a natural look

I will always look back fondly on these photos from me and ’s first trip together. We’ve both grown so much in the 9 years, in general and in our work, and it’s both wild and heartwarming for me to look at these older photos from a very different time.

But how could I ever forget that rush of something new, exploring beautiful places while learning more about each other, the magical feeling of finally finding your person? It was far from a perfect trip—I actually found out that my grandmother passed away while we were on this adventure, but that kid sure knew how to keep me smiling from day one. Forever grateful for you, BBN8 💚

We’ve been having a blast on our Arches & Canyonlands National Parks workshop this week! This spot is one of my absolute favorites, and it was such an honor to share it with wonderful company.

We have one more night together under the shimmering stars, and I’m feeling ever so grateful to have made more friends who adore the night sky as much as I do 🤩
