I take tens of thousand of photos, at least every few months. Maybe more. For work. For family. For friends. Because I love capturing REAL moments. I love knowing that people will revisit those moments and find so much joy. So so few of my photos ever make it to social media.

Here are a few favourites from last night. Of kids running and playing on hay bales and in corn mazes. And the amazing joy they are able to find from such simple freedom and play.

gave me my first Nikon FM when I was maybe six years old. My curiousity, desire to capture the world, stemmed from there. He is the reason that I do what I do. Since then, I have been incredibly fortunate to have his constant support and encouragement as I have turned our shared passion for photography into my work.

While my love for photography is a direct result of his shared passion for beautiful places, desire to capture them, and his encouragement, our styles are immensely different. As we have both been sorting through our photos from this week in Norway, this has been abundantly clear. This was intended to be a week chasing aurora, but when the forecast didn’t cooperate with our plans, it turned into a week of primarily landscape photography, which is not typically my favorite.

While I love the challenge and the opportunity to enter a creative headspace, my favorite photos from this trip are the ones of my dad. Doing what he loves, in beautiful places. I have a whole series of him on this trip, camera in hand, classic bright orange accents making him ever visible. If I had to pick one photo, and one favourite memory from the trip, this would be it. Just he and I at the top of a hill, in spectacular light, doing what we love.

This is why I love to have a camera always in hand. I love to capture people, experiencing, and living life.

I love having the opportunity to create in new ways, to work with or a fulfill a vision or an idea, and I am forever grateful for the people who push me to do so. .movement regularly among them.
