Standing in the middle of the Egg Hatchery in the Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness felt like stepping onto another planet. 🪐 The cracked stone “eggs” scattered across the desert floor look like something ancient and extraterrestrial — perfectly round boulders emerging from soft, eroding earth as if they’re waiting to hatch.
The rock formations out here are some of the most unique I’ve ever seen — shaped by millions of years of wind, water, and time. It’s quiet, surreal, and almost unsettling in the best way. No trails, no crowds, just raw geology doing its thing.
But as incredible as they are, these formations are fragile. The same forces that created them are slowly wearing them away, and once they’re gone, they’re gone. Visiting places like this is a reminder to tread lightly — these landscapes won’t last forever.
