Becca Briggs at the wreck of the Peter Iredale. I love long exposures with people and water. The capturing of a moment where the blurring infers the movement. It’s especially nice when the end of the shot catches someone’s features.

My interest in photography started when I was a volunteer naturalist at the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in Moss Beach, CA. I would take pictures of the animals I’d see out in the tide pools to identify later. I was using a little point and shoot camera back then but it did the job and I learned how to use it and realized I could take control of the view to capture more artistic shots through composition, lighting, framing and patience. I feel in love with nudibranchs (sea slugs) and that passion got me out exploring and experimenting.

These are some of my favorite shots from tide pools from Moss Beach to Santa Cruz, CA and one from Bird Rock in San Diego.

Long exposure capturing two moments and the space in between.

Single shot. Shutter open for 1.5 seconds. Wind, model movement and waves.

The two faces - one smiling, one apprehensive. The movement of the grass to show the presence of the wind.
The blurring of the waves shows the passage of time.

Thanks, Amanda!
