The Nudi Archive (2022)

The longer you spend looking at something, the easier it is to start to anthropomorphize it and I definitely did that with sea slugs.

The more time I spent watching them through the viewfinder, the more personality they seemed to have.

Some would sit and pose, almost curious, while others wanted nothing to do with me.

They’ve taken me through every emotion, frustration, excitement, joy and kept me coming back every time.

Waaaaay back…circa 2020 when I got my first underwater camera.
Olympus TG4 and zero clue what I was doing.
Just point, shoot and hope for the best 🤷‍♂️

Let’s just say I’ve come a long way…but there’s a nice feeling of nostalgia in these images.

Phestilla viei

This is one of the only nudibranchs to be first described and recorded as a new species on Koh Tao. This means, collection, lab work, DNA and a peer-reviewed study was done.

Although it’s wide spread it’s extremely camouflage and quite small. (Swipe for size reference)

These guys feed exclusively on a coral called Pavona explanulata so once you know what they eat you know where to find them 😉

By far some of the best diving I’ve done in my life…excellent visibility, plenty of healthy coral with a nice mix of soft and hard coral, big animals, small animals and everything in between. I saw so many creatures on this trip I’ve only ever seen in photos…I’m still astounded at how color our oceans and their inhabitants really are.

I can’t wait to go again someday…maybe next time with my actual camera instead of just an action cam…

Lately I’ve been shooting more inside wrecks.

The structure gives you a lot to work with, frames, leading lines, and pockets of light that can completely change a shot.

It’s less about chasing subjects and more about building the image with light and positioning.
