July 18th 1776 the Declaration of Independence was read from that very balcony. Just to the right of the photo was the location of the Boston Massacre. An oppressive government fired shots into a crowd of protesters on March 5, 1770 . As we celebrate the birth of a new nation we would do well to remember the history and actions that lead to a population rising up.
