The scimitar-horned oryx is actually extinct in the wild in its native North Africa. Today Texas actually has the largest population of scimitar-horned oryx anywhere on Earth — estimated at over 11,000 animals on Texas ranches. Some have actually been reintroduced back to Chad from Texas breeding populations as part of international conservation efforts. Beautiful animals!
