One of my favorite aspects of producing creative assets for brands is connecting consumers to the emotional aspects of products or services.

When done right, your target audience should be able to FEEL exactly what you’re communicating, regardless if it’s a photo or video.

Those feelings then become associated with the product/service and ultimately the brand.

Emotions greatly influence and often determine our buying decisions and any brand worth its salt not only understands this but utilizes it to their advantage.

These photo frames shot for the ‘Vibe’ cycling program featured at shot by are a great example of this.

The lighting, colors and emotions displayed by our talent all play a role in replicating the fun, blissful and energetic atmosphere one experiences in any of the ‘Vibe’ classes.

If you’ve been here for a while, you know how much I love using ⚡️ in my posts.

It’s something I’ve infused into my existence and those that know me personally, know why.

But most of you don’t and today I want to briefly touch on why it resonates with me so much.

In 2016 for the first time in my life, I started to experience depression and anxiety.

Growing up I was always a happy kid, never having any issues with mental health - I even downplayed depression at times, despite seeing my mother deal with it throughout my teen years.

I felt like a shell of myself and my bright days were suddenly consumed by dark clouds that left me feeling down, lost and often times, hopeless.

I was perplexed as to why this was happening because on the surface I had it “all”:

- Making great money right out of college
- Living in Chicago and enjoying myself every weekend
- A beautiful girlfriend

Something I’ve come to learn about myself is when adversity knocks me down, the only thing I know is to get back up and move forward - to find solutions to my problems and become a better version of myself in the process.

I genuinely believe our minds are our strongest assets and that my mind is strong enough to overcome any challenge.

I didn’t want to go down the SSRI route because I’ve seen what they do to people and have always felt they never actually solve the root of the problem.

After some research I started working on building better habits through:

- Daily meditation
- Daily gratitude (wrote the same 10 things in my journal first thing in the morning for 3 years)
- Drinking/partying less
- Better sleep
- Gym 5x per week
- Removing toxicity from my life in all forms

Long story short, these things did help, but it wasn’t enough. Looking back on it now, I think the biggest factor contributing to my issues was a lack of purpose.

I eventually found purpose within a camera; whenever I was shooting with friends, time stood still.

There was no anxiety, no depression and….I was happy.

Marathon season may be over, but the achievements will live on forever 🥇

Running a marathon is no easy task and one that certainly doesn’t come without preparation.

Often referred to as the last “run” of a multiple month training program, for most people 26.2 symbolizes the end of an incredible journey filled with pain, sacrifice, monotony and running 4+ times per week.

Crossing that finish line is not just an achievement, but a powerful reminder of what’s possible when you really “lock in”, stick to your plan and put in the work.

And that’s not even touching on the spectrum of emotions you feel when you finally finish…it’s truly an incredible feeling.

However, you only get one ‘first marathon’..so why not immortalize it?

That’s why I couldn’t turn down my good friend and incredible sports photographer when he asked me to shoot his post finisher photos.

Andre’s vision for this shoot was very specific; when he first moved to Chicago ten years ago the city’s steel infrastructure was one of the first unique things he noticed about the city.

He specifically told me “it would be cool to look back on finisher portraits that remind me why I love this city.”

When I heard this I already knew the perfect location: the bridge crossing over the river on Wells Street that pretty much symbolizes the half-way point of the marathon.

This spot served as an awesome location to capture environmental portraits that reinforced the vision that Andre had.

We finished it up in the studio, grabbing a variety of traditional and creative portraits that communicated a feeling of proudness, strength and achievement.

It was an honor not just to capture that special memory, but to be trusted with bringing the vision to life, especially for a friend and peer that I respect.

A big congrats to you Andre on smashing 26.2‼️

Looking forward to not only shooting with you in the future, but running with you as well ⚡️

Earlier this summer I had the pleasure of producing and shooting photo assets for the coaches of five different studios here in the Chicagoland area.

The objective of this shoot was two-fold:

1️⃣: Capture traditional headshots for the coaches to utilize on their OTF mobile app profiles

2️⃣: Provide a content bank of portrait/lifestyle images for coaches to use on their social media to connect with followers, promote their classes and their studios.

Due to the large number of coaches (20+), all with varying schedules, we split the shoot into two half days: the first being mainly headshots with light portraiture and the second half being the exact opposite.

I decided to do the headshots on location, using the studio as the “backdrop” as it provided more character than a traditional seamless, in my opinon.

The portrait/lifestyle images were geared towards highlighting not just the individual coaches, but their collective teams as a whole, for studio representation. I made sure to shoot both static and action shots to provide a wide variety of looks each coach/studio could use for social.

Touching on mood/feel, I wanted to make sure each coach/team was captured as authentically as possible. As I do on all my shoots, I got to know these coaches as people first, so they could give me their true selves while in front of the camera.

A big s/o to the talent for not only bringing the energy, but taking direction well - despite only having roughly two hours to shoot all the group photos, we came away with more than enough content.

Lastly, shoutout to and for assisting on the day and helping to ensure everything ran smoothly - couldn’t have done this without you guys ⚡️

Some new work for .run / .chi to debut their new ‘23 Celebration Collection 💔⚡️

Inspired by 90s era Chicago when it defined sport and culture, this collection ties together basketball and running fashion.

Designed by the running jerseys feature Heartbreak’s new ‘Flying H’ monogram print, inspired by luxury fashion houses like Balmain, Versace and Goyard.

The theme behind this shoot was to not just showcase the collection, but do so while highlighting, and bringing together members from the Chicago .

Luc’s vision was spot on and I’m grateful for him trusting me with it ⚡️🤞🏽

Crew and gear-wise, we kept it non-existent - the only thing I brought was a 5-in-1 reflector and Luc was my “PA.”

Lastly, a big shoutout to the talent for bringing the energy, taking direction well and absolutely crushing it:

Introducing the ‘Demon Hours’ Project - for those who aren’t afraid to channel their inner demons/dark sides to unlock the highest form of self ⚡️

Born from the grueling track sessions I took part in while training for the , in hopes of awakening the inner beast that lies within all of us.

While I initially hated those sessions because I had to build my base, the more I showed up, the better I got.

Not only did I get exponentially faster, but my ability to run harder at longer distances, increased dramatically.

I remember one of my first sessions with where I legit wanted to quit 30 seconds, but I pushed on.

I dug deep and told myself that “my circumstances will never be stronger than my drive to win.”

Often times when trying to unlock oir own greatness, we have to go to that ‘dark place’ and channel a different type of energy.

That dark energy that turns you from prey, to predator.

It’s an existential way to look at things and it’s incredibly powerful when channeled correctly.

Evolution isn’t easy nor is it comfortable…it will find every way to break you to see if you’re really about that life.

And what better way to prove that than letting our darkest moments light the fire that always burns within, allowing us to radiate an even brighter light of energy, power and confidence to destroy any obstacles in our paths.

When you reach that point of enlightenment you realize that you’re not afraid of the dark - rather the dark is afraid of you because the light you emit cannot be blocked.

And in that moment is when you transcend to new heights you didn’t think know we’re possible.

‘Demon Hours’ isn’t necessarily about running or training but rather being the best you.

Because that best version of you is only born from persevering through pain, difficulty and adversity, which is what life is made of.

When you stop running from those things, is when life changes for the better.

Your light shines so bright that the dark can never consume you - instead you consume it, becoming an unstoppable life force.

And that’s what this project is about ⚡️

“I’m not paying that much just for photos and videos.”

A line that every photographer and videographer, usually in the beginning stages of their careers

There’s a multitude of reasons as to why we get this answer but it usually centers around failing to diagnose a prospect’s situation.

But that’s a conversation for another day 💥

Whenever I get this answer from prospects today, it usually comes from inbound clients - those that come to me.

If a brand or business gives me this answer, my first thought is they either have a weak content strategy, or none at all.

The reality is that photos and videos are just that…at a BASELINE level.

Just like your car is something that gets you from point A to B…at a baseline level.

In reality a car is much more than that:

⏰ It saves you time, our most valuable asset
🤑 Can be a status symbol
🛒 It provides convenience to make life easier - ever tried to ride a bike with multiple bags of groceries?

These are just a few examples, centered around solving problems/adding benefits to a person’s life.

Same can be said for photos and videos:

⚡️They provide brands assets to communicate their products/services on social media
⚡️Tell stories featuring their ideal clients that help new/old consumers relate to the brand
⚡️Are marketing/advertising ASSETS that help brands generate more $ - can’t run ads without creatives 😈
⚡️Raise a brand’s image through high-quality images/videos - most people perceive quality through high prices and things that look visually appealing

And so much more.

This image I shot of when we officially unveiled our kits made by is a great example of the above.

It’s currently displayed on Nike.com/Chicago, was displayed at Mile 7 during the and shown at the block party for tons of people to see.

Not only was this an incredibly humbling moment in my career, but something I chased for a MINUTE, that made me proud to see in the flesh.

The TLDR of all this? Photos and videos will be just that, if that’s the only lens you view them through.

Swipe all the way right to see a happy and extremely proud kid ⚡️

Tomorrow is the and I couldn’t be more HYPED to step into the racing arena once again‼️

The last three months have been nothing short of amazing - filled with sacrifice, pain, solitude, community, fun…

And most importantly, EVOLUTION.

I use the word evolution specifically because the challenge at hand is even greater than in June, when I ran my first ever race.

A challenge that required me to evolve into an even better, and completelty different version of myself.

I’ve been LOCKED in since July 1st, following the training plan my coac put together for me, to a T.

I’ve had to forego a lot of “fun”, restructure priorities and stay relentless in preparing myself for this race.

But it’s all been worth it because I’m at my absolute best right now - I’m firing on ALL cylinders: mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally.

Not only am I faster than I couldve ever imagined..but my ability to run faster for greater distances is through the roof.

I’m more confident than I’ve ever been and that’s due to not only putting in the difficult work, but seeing/feeling the fruits of my labor pay off.

Tomorrow I run the 2022 Chicago Marathon for because the youth is the future and we need to provide them the proper resources, care and support to excel in life..ultimately making our world better.

The words on my shoes represent my mixed background, which I couldn’t be more proud of:

🇧🇷 Excelência to represent my mom and the excellence that I chase every single day. The excellence that I am, through the actions I take, that speak for me.

🇳🇴 To represent my dad and my ascension tomorrow to an even greater version of myself that is going to torch this race and finish how I want to: ON FIRE.

This journey has been an absolute blessing and privlege that I’m beyond grateful for and would repeat again and again and again.

Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of this journey and helping me to really improve - you’ve created positive impact in someone else and that’s something to be proud of.

I can’t wait to show you all what I’m made of, and why my logo is the lightning bolt.

Tomorrow we FLY ⚡️‼️⚡️

Introducing the 2022 race team ⚡️‼️⚡️

(Minus me cuz someone had to take the photos 😅)

With race week upon us, the energy in the city will continue to skyrocket as we inch closer and closer to Sunday.

What better way to match that, than showing you all what our training looked like these last three months?

Especially since the fam over blessed us with some of their marathon apparel 🙏🏽.

I know I can speak for a lot of us who have friends that consider us “crazy” for running 4-5x per week.

But there’s a method to the madness - running 26.2 miles is no joke and you have to put in the work to make sure your body is ready come race day.

That means a ton of sacrifice, discipline, pain and recovery..plus a ton of fun and growth ⚡️

These images represent the different types of runs we put ourselves through since July:

🌊 Saturday morning lake front long runs (up to 22) to condition the mind/body for distance

🏎 Track/tempo runs purely focused on speed (the sprints get easier after the 1st I promise) - big speed gains made here

🦬 Tuesday morning 5ks /shorter runs through Humboldt Park with the rest of the RTH family..these were the “easiest” runs..sometimes

The hard part is over..now all that’s left is to finish the last 26.2 miles of our training and we’re all BEYOND ready.

I’m geeked to share the track with not just these six incredible people, but everyone else running on Sunday.

See y’all on Sunday..it’s going to be ELECTRIFYING ⚡️
