I have had the joy of capturing the beauty in the world for over 30 years...owning a portrait studio in Illinois for many years, and now living life in Montana. With the beauty of Montana before me, Songs of Life is now focusing on capturing the beauty of real life before me-the beauty of the land and the beauty of your real life. Labor Day is more than the unofficial end of summer.

It’s a day to remember and honor the people whose hard work helped shape this country—and the generations of workers who fought for things we can easily take for granted today: fair wages, safer workplaces, reasonable hours, time off, and the dignity of being valued for the work we do.

Today, we celebrate the hands that build, teach, care, create, serve, protect, grow, repair, and keep our communities moving forward.

When I decided to re launch Songs of Life Photography, I had a few things on my heart that I wanted to implement. One of them is the Contribution Based Pricing Model.

Many of you are wondering-what in the world is that?

I believe that every family deserves beautiful photographs that tell their story. That's why I've chosen this path.

Photography is deeply personal. The value of a photograph can be different for every person. Sometimes it’s a few beautiful images to remember a season of life.
Sometimes the experience of simply being seen, celebrated, and cared for is worth more than you expected.

So I’m letting go of set prices and trying something called contribution-based pricing.

Here’s what that means:
I’ll provide a suggested contribution for each session, ranging from about $40–$250, depending on the type of session. This gives you a place to start and helps reflect the time, experience, creativity, and work that goes into what I do.

But it isn’t a fixed price.
After your session, you choose your contribution.

You can think about the experience you had, the photographs we created together, the value they hold for you, my experience and expertise, and what feels right for you and your circumstances.

Everyone receives the same care, attention, creativity, and quality of work—regardless of their contribution.

Happy National Dog Day!

They greet us at the door like we've been gone for years.

There’s a saying I’ve always loved:

“Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.”

I think about that when I look at the seasons of life that have stretched us, challenged us, and sometimes left us wondering, Why is this happening?

Because difficult roads don't always feel like they're taking us anywhere.

Sometimes they feel like setbacks.
Sometimes they feel unfair.
Sometimes they change the plans we thought we had.
And sometimes, they ask more of us than we ever imagined we could give.

But perhaps the destination isn't always the thing we thought we were heading toward.

Sometimes the difficult road changes us.

It teaches us patience.
It shows us what truly matters.
It reveals strengths we didn't know we had.
It teaches us to let go of what no longer serves us and make room for something new.

We don't always get to choose the road we're given.

But we do get to choose how we walk it.

We can allow the hard seasons to make us bitter—or let them make us deeper.

We can focus only on what we've lost—or begin noticing what we've gained.

We can keep asking, “Why me?”—or eventually begin asking, “What is this season teaching me?”

And maybe, years from now, we'll look back at the road we never would have chosen and realize it carried us somewhere we never could have found any other way.

The difficult road wasn't the end of the story.

It was part of becoming who we were meant to be.

So if you're walking a difficult road right now, keep going.

You don't have to know exactly where it leads.

Just take the next step.

There may be something beautiful waiting for you on the other side.
