Fun Fact #3

By 1980, the VHS format controlled 60% of the North American market. Its main competitors being LaserDisc, and Sony’s Betamax. Early on, things looked good for Betamax. In 1974, there was a push from the Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), for the Betamax to be the “industry standard” for home recording devices. On the other hand VHS was being backed by major Japanese tech companies, including Panasonic, Hitachi, and Mitsubishi. This caused MITI to drop the idea of having an industry standard.

Fun Fact #1

VHS Stands for Video Home System.
The Concept for a VHS was created by the Victor Company of Japan, more commonly known as JVC, in 1971. In 1972 the project for developing VHS was dropped, due to budget cuts within JVC. In secret, the two leads on the old project, continued working, and by 1973 a fully functional VHS prototype was created. By 1976 the first VHS machines were released in Japan, followed by a release in The United States in 1977.

WE ARE OFFICIALLY OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Here at KMC I can convert your home videos to digital files so you can view them on your computer or smart TV! Currently we only convert VHS tapes, but soon we are looking to be able convert VHS-C, 8mm, and 16mm film, to digital files.

It all started when I was digging through some old boxes in the basement, I found some lost memories in the form of a VHS tape. It was labeled “Mom and Dad’s 40th Anniversary, April 1988.” I had to know, so I dug around a bit more and found the family’s old VCR. I tossed the VHS in and on the screen was my great grandfather, who I hadn’t seen since 2008. The film also included all of my cousins, aunts, and uncles. It was a very unique feeling, being able to see all of them like that. 36 years ago was when that was filmed, and I was sure that my family hadn’t seen the recording since then. I wanted to share these lost memories with them, so they could have that feeling I had when I saw my grandfather. That’s what I do now, I want to be able to spread that feeling with everyone else, not just my family but with yours as well. So go dig out those old home videos, and allow me the pleasure of bringing back old memories to your family and friends.

Tapes are converted to 1080p widescreen, in order to fit on modern televisions and monitors. Converted files will be delivered on a USB drive for you to plug into a computer and pull the files from there. I currently do pickup and delivery in the Kansas City Area, for no extra charge! I have a 1-2 week delivery time. Pricing will vary depending on the amount of film you have.

Pricing
Base Rate-
$20 1-6hr
$30 7-12hr
$40 13+hr
+$10/hr Rate

I have a base rate that varies depending on the amount of film you need converted, then the hourly rate on top of that. After the film is converted, an invoice will be sent to your E-Mail or through text. There you will be able to pay with your credit/debit card through the secure “Square” website. Once paid, I can set up a time to deliver your tapes and new USB drive to you!

Why KMC? Well, I know a lot of larger companies do media conversion, but those places can get rather pricey. Even with price aside, with larger companies, you don’t have the guarantee that your memories are being handled by someone who cares about them just as much as you do.
