From “Keepsake Photography” to “My Soul Expressed: Art & Photography - My Story

I started this page back when I was 16-17 years old as a way for me to post my photography and showcase my growing photography skills. I maintained the name “Keepsake Photography” in Alexandria, MN until I went to college in 2014, attending Bemidji State University majoring in Social Work and minoring in Chemical Dependency. While I was in school it was difficult for me to really put time into my photography hobby while going to school full time and often working two jobs. During college I renamed the page “Nikki J Photography” in an attempt to bring photography back into my life. But as we all know, life gets busy and we often sacrifice our passions during those times. I graduated from BSU in the spring of 2017 and by the fall of 2017 I was hired at a local nonprofit in Bemidji, MN working with victims of crime. This is where I really began to find the importance of self-care. My job is stressful at times, it can be emotionally and mentally draining, but it is also the most rewarding thing I have ever done with my life. In helping professions, we often stress the importance of self-care, you really cannot take care of others unless you are taking care of yourself. I knew that I needed an outlet, and my love for photography, crafting, writing, and creating really started to come back into my life. While my love for photography will never fade, I have also found new arts that have really helped me embrace the idea of self-care. I enjoy earring making, writing, re-doing and re-purposing furniture, and of course photography. By renaming my page to “My Soul Expressed: Art & Photography” I can not only share my photography, but I can also share my other passions with the world. This page is truly my soul expressed though different art forms, a place to connect with others, and a way to showcase my passions. Welcome to “My Soul Expressed: Art & Photography.
