Let’s talk about hockey.

I know, you’re like, “but wtf does that have to do with bo***ir, Allison?”

Actually, a lot. This is long but follow me here for story time…

I grew up in a football family, in a football town, and had a fast as hell running back of a brother. Hockey never even crossed my mind. Fun fact: I was a cheerleader. (Peep the comments, I’ll show ya, somedays I still don’t even believe it myself)

But then 9 years ago, I met my husband, was introduced to the Boston Bruins (&Brad Marchand, still not over him 😭) and the rest is history. I grew to learn and love hockey, as did our children.

Our son played floor hockey for 3 years before moving on to street and dek hockey. His next goal is to learn ice (so book sessions w/me please so I don’t have to sell a kidney😅).

He always had a fascination with goalies. We love watching Jeremy Swayman and Aerin Frankel together. Sure enough, his second street practice he hopped into the crease for a try and here we are.

Being a goalie mom, helping my child to learn the position, the lingo, the quirks, the struggles, the emotions, the mental game… has all somehow ran so similar to bo***ir photography for me.

Here’s what both goaltending & the journey of learning to love yourself have taught me and why they’re so similar:

When the world is taking shots at you, you’ve gotta take up space, stand tall, hold your own and keep it pushing. Some shots may make it by you, sure. Can’t stop them all. But you sure as hell can get up and try again on the next one.

Challenge your opponents. We’ve been working on confidence with Sully. When his opponent approaches, he needs to come out, get big and challenge his opponent. When you’re learning to love yourself and get comfortable in your skin, you’ve gotta get big and challenge the small minds that will try to attack you.

Take up space. Take up alllll the damn space. The more space you take up, the less chance your opponent has at scoring on you. The more space your presence takes up, the less others’ opinions have a chance at even remotely touching you.

Goaltending is a mind game. So is learning to love yourself. Shots scored on you can creep in, get the best of you and bring you down… if you let them. Negative self talk can creep in and send you spiraling… if you let it. The ones who win, are those who keep that next shot mentality— shake it off, stay unbothered and get ready for the next one.

Your experience is only as good as the people you surround yourself with. We’ve been fortunate to meet some really great people in the ball hockey community. It makes hard days better when you see the kids and adults that offer kind words and encouragement to your player. Likewise, when you surround yourself with supportive women and a positive community, learning to love yourself becomes much easier and enjoyable.

We’ve learned a lot so far. And we have a hell of a lot more to learn. But I couldn’t help but notice that I find myself recognizing so many similarities. Whether goaltending or learning to feel confident in your own skin, you have to keep learning and always try to love the ride with your head held high.

Offering bo***ir services and being a part of that learning journey for other women is seriously one of the biggest honors of my life outside of being a mom. Rest assured, if you’re looking to learn how to feel comfortable in your own skin, I got you.

Things every woman who’s nervous about booking bo***ir should know from your friendly Northeastern PA bo***ir photographer 🖤

prep guide = less overthinking
trying on outfits early = less self doubt
bringing a robe/layering = comfort you control
posing coaching = zero guessing
fewer unknowns = less anxiety
time to settle in = feels like hanging w/a bestie
safe to speak up for your body = trust
your favorite playlist = unstoppable mood
comfort = confidence

I wish someone had handed me this list when I kept putting off my own session for over five years.

At the time of booking, you don’t already have to know what to wear, how to prep, or hell, how any of this even works. That’s why I’m here to support you.

You’re not supposed to walk in already knowing how to pose, what to do with your face, or suddenly feeling like the most confident woman in the room.

That’s 👏 not 👏 your 👏 job. 👏 (& if your photographer isn’t helping you with this—🚩 RUN)

My job is to take away as many of the unknowns as I can, guide you through every pose, give you time to settle in, and create a safe space where you never have to push through something just because there’s a camera in front of you.

Comfort, consent and education will always come first here. Comfort will always be the root of confidence.

Save this for when the nerves hit. 🫶

Am I beyond excited for season model calls? Yes.

So excited that I have my calendar out while at Knoebels? Also yes.

Do I need better work-life balance/boundaries? Again, yes.

But do I love what I do for a living, and am I incredibly grateful to help women see themselves with kinder eyes? Hell 👏 Yes 👏

Seasonal Model Call offers have started hitting inboxes. If you applied, keep an eye on your email for more info & the booking link.

Any additional upgrade invoices and prep guides will follow soon after within 1-3 business days. Because I believe in human connection, a good portion of my workflow is not automated. When I return to my desk, correspondence will follow promptly.

If you’ve been debating applying, now’s the time. I’ve received way more applicants than anticipated, which is amazing, but due to the large number I will have to close applications by the end of the weekend.

If the Halloween season, whether cozy or spooky, is your favorite of the year, get to it—

‼️ Spooky Season Model Call Now Open

I was going to wait until next week to open the model call, but what better way to say TGIF than to open applications now.

Let's talk about model calls...

As I'm putting some finishing touches on a model call gallery about to go out soon, I just haaad to share this image I was obsessed with (amongst the many that is).

I figured now was also a good time to go over how model calls work here since we'll have a new seasonal call coming up soon.

If you're new here or need a refresher, this is for you:

Model calls, despite their name, require absolutely no prior modeling experience. I will guide you through every step of the process. Model calls are open to all ages 21+, all shapes, all sizes, all skin tones and are always LGBTQIA+ friendly.

Model call sessions receive a discounted rate in exchange for a signed release to use your images on socials and in marketing materials. An application process is required to ensure you align with or are open to the artistic vision.

If you've been curious, I highly encourage you to keep an eye out for the next round. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out and we can explore together!

Spooky season model calls for this year are cominggg 🖤

People say this to me a lot and the real answer is not as impressive as it sounds. Care, comfort and respect aren’t rocket science.

I know most women aren’t walking into my studio thinking, “I’m going to be amazing at this.” They’re thinking about their stomach, their arms, whether they’ll look awkward, whether they’ll know what to do, and sometimes whether booking at all was a terrible idea.

I don’t expect you to arrive comfortable in front of the camera. I build the session around helping you get there: clear direction, poses I demonstrate instead of just describing, room to move at your own pace and comfort level, outfit choices that actually feel like you, and zero expectation that you perform confidence you don’t feel— yet.

I think a lot of women assume looking comfortable in bo***ir photos requires already being confident, photogenic, or naturally good in front of a camera. It usually just requires an experience that doesn’t leave you responsible for figuring all of that out by yourself.

If you have questions, have never done this before or have worries holding you back, comment “GUIDE” and I’ll send you my free bo***ir booking guide.
