My youngest son is in the stage of childhood where he is absolutely delighted by big vehicles. School buses, excavators, tractors, trucks— at the sight of any, he can be heard exclaiming “WOW!”
A few weeks ago, my husband had some work to do outside, and his little helper was more than happy to be out with him watering the garden and moving rocks. As they were finishing up, the garbage service drove through the neighborhood. My husband picked up our son so he could get a better view of the truck as it stopped at houses down the hill. Shortly after, they made their way inside the house to clean up for a snack. As they took off their shoes and placed them in the entryway cabinet, the three of us watched the garbage truck pick up our bins.
“The driver is getting out of the truck…I wonder what is wrong with our bins?” My husband asked out loud.
It was then that we saw the driver leave a little toy garbage truck on top of one of our trash bins and wave at us standing in the doorway. The driver’s gift brought the biggest grin to my son’s little face.
This act of kindness reminded me - You can make anything a ministry. God can use you right where you are to share the love of Jesus and bless those around you. The calling is the same whether you are employed by a local church or drive a garbage truck - whether you work or stay at home. The world can feel dark, but if you call Jesus your Savior, you are called to be a light-bringer everywhere you go. Shine bright, friends. ✨
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Colossians 3:17 ESV
P.S. Thank you for making my son’s day ☀️
