I asked the park rangers why the sky had such a unique hazy hue... this color gradation is not due to any editing effects- true to color editing is my bread and butter.

According to the park ranger, it's an amazing phenomenon; the same things we see at a sunset or sunrise happen right there in the middle of the troposphere (the atmosphere closest to the ground). The beautiful colors we see in clouds are due to the refraction of light off of molecules in the air.

At Big Bend, some of the sand and silt particles are so light that they remain in the windy atmosphere, refracting light... creating ethereal mornings like this.

Moments after taking this photo, a huge gust of wind blew the clouds directly in front of the moon, leaving us in utter darkness.

We stood on that stretch of highway, completely in awe of the sudden contrast of being able to see clearly to "light's out."

I know there are people out there that get to experience that type of Quiet every day, but it was my first and I cannot help but to still be in awe.

I have a couple of times, now - not just physically, but emotionally and within relationships, as well. The Great Restart is always worth it, in my honest opinion.

Luckily, we found this gas station at daybreak..

This big ol' mesa is part of the Chisos Formation at Big Bend National Park

It's as if gaining life experience and perspective has allowed me to appreciate the beauty and vastness of the world in a way that might not have been possible in my twenties.

Sometimes, I catch myself looking at this photo and imagining that trail might lead to some otherworldly location. How can one not be amazed when something so grand appears before you?
