The day before my wedding, I heard them everywhere…

The last bird on my Lake Tahoe checklist was the Yellow-headed Blackbird.

The day after, we returned to the same marsh. For what felt like forever, he made me work for it.. Diving into the tall grass, disappearing completely, then casually landing on the opposite side of the marsh where no photo was possible.

After a lot of patience (and a little stubbornness), he finally gave me the opportunity I was hoping for.

That’s nature for ya. The best encounters can’t be forced. You just show up, stay patient, and let nature decide.

Worth it.

On our 6,500+ foot hike to the top of Cave Rock, we unexpectedly came across multiple Western Tanagers.

With so many people on the trail, they weren’t bothered by us one bit. They’d fly in close and perch nearby.

But of course… Somehow, they always chose the one branch that made photography nearly impossible.

After a little patience, they finally gave me a few opportunities.

Moments like this are one of the reasons I love being out in nature. You never know what you’ll find around the next bend in the trail.

Have you been to the Grants Mill Canoe Launch/Cahaba Riverwalk?

It’s a great place to get out in nature, slow down, and disconnect for a while. Whether you want to cool off in the water or explore the trails, there’s plenty to enjoy.

The Red Rock Trail System is full of incredible places worth exploring, and I’m honored to help showcase their beauty through my work with

P.S. If you visit, please help keep these spaces beautiful by cleaning what you bring in and leaving no trace behind. 🌿📸

So blessed to be a part of this! 🙏🏾

Even though I saw a ton of lifers, The Stellar’s Jay was number one on my birding list.

I didn’t see any until the second day, on the same trail as the bear encounter in Emerald Bay. After that, they were every where for the remainder of the trip.

They’re loud and obnoxious just like our Blue Jays. Must run in the family.
