This past week, I had the opportunity to attend “Premiere Night,” an inaugural local film showcase hosted at , based in Birmingham, Alabama. The event brought together filmmakers, creatives, and supporters of the city’s growing film community. Spearheaded by filmmaker DeSean Motley , the event was created to give young and emerging filmmakers an opportunity to put their work in front of a real audience, while also giving them space to speak on the ideas, motivations, and production behind their films. DeSean has continued to play an important role in Birmingham’s film scene, not only through his own work as a director, but by helping create more opportunities, resources, and access for the filmmakers coming behind him. Premiere Night was another extension of that work, highlighting local talent, connecting creatives with the community, and giving Birmingham filmmakers another platform for their stories to be seen and appreciated.

Took a wild trip down to ATL with “The Boss” and a stumbled upon the gem that is . 💪These few clips do not, I repeat, DO NOT do this museum of health, variety, and knowledge any justice. You’ve just gotta experience it yourself.

One of the many eye catching traits of this gym are the World’s Heaviest Dumbbells, one weighting a whopping 620 LBS. All of the custom weights you see are crafted by co-owner Mark Phillips. Using an engine hoist and his decades of brute strength, Phillips handles his creations with care as he and set up a gauntlet test the strength of average to above average gym goers.

Introducing Mark Phillips, co-owner of in Atlanta Georgia. This man is a great pillar in the gym community of ATL as he has been building up for over a decade and has become a curator for 500+ pieces of equipment along with a one of one set of the Worlds Heaviest Kegs and Dumbbells in the World. Along side him is Phillip, a frequent member of Madhouse, moments after Phillip came the first member to ever defeat the 620 LB dumbbell in Mark’s prized collection.

Closing out my time at Block In Bloom Safe Summer Series, I can say I wholeheartedly enjoyed seeing the art, talent, and culture that surrounded not only the space, but everyone I met. The food was amazing, the music and perspectives shared were unique and welcomed with an open heart. We need more events like this in the city and the only way we can get these if we continue to support. Thank you Birmingham.

Awesome lineup of DJs, Artists, Art, community outreach, workshops, and an atmosphere of culture. All to celebrate the community that keeps historic Ensley alive.

In July, I got the opportunity to listen to Alabama’s own Lillian Aleece live in attendance at “Block in Bloom” event in Ensley, Alabama. While there, I captured her in flow state 🎥 From her presence comes a sound so honest, soulful, and her own in a world full of trends. She remains rooted in authenticity as she turns real emotion, Southern influence and personal experience into a music you can truly feel. 🎶🎤
