Growing up as a kid, I have vivid memories of walking over to the windmill to get a drink of water in between wagon loads of hay coming in from the field to be unloaded into the loft.

The summer temps were usually in the 80s and 90s with an almost unbearable amount of humidity. I'd grab that little metal cup that was hanging from the handle of the hydrant, lift the handle and listen as the water rushed upwards until it came rushing out of the spout with a little "bloop" sound. I'd fill the small cup with what was always the coldest and best tasting water coming straight out of the ground and drink it quickly enough that a low-level brain freeze would follow.

I absolutely love old abandoned houses. If this house could talk, I'd pull up a chair and listen to every story it had to tell! I'd like to imagine this one would have plenty to tell about everything from weather events to the families that lived in and cared for it.

"The history of the formation of the Cascade Mountains dates back millions of years ago to the late Eocene Epoch.[5] With the North American Plate overriding the Pacific Plate, episodes of volcanic igneous activity persisted.[5] In addition, small fragments of the oceanic and continental lithosphere called terranes created the North Cascades about 50 million years ago.[5]"

As I spent the day with my daughter stopping at different locations to take pictures and video, it made me think of my dad. My time in the woods with him usually started in the spring gathering firewood for the next winter and ended in late fall with the close of hunting season. As a child, the woods were just another place to be hanging out with my dad after he was done with work for the day or on the weekends.

At that age, I didn't have the capacity to realize how lucky I really was. I was unaware that he was sharing something that he loved. Sharing nature with me as a child, explaining it's intricacies ensuring that I learned everything it offers. At the end of a day of being out in nature with my daughter, I know how he felt.
