We were joined today by Grand Valley State University biology professor Dan Goldberg, as well as MI Hawk Watch Naturalist/Author Josh Haas from Hawks on the Wing. It was all part of the Grand Rapids Film Festival.

Also, the first screening of HAWKWATCH outdoors. Rather appropriate for a film about conservation education.

Then, following the film, the Michigan "Hawksters" shared their knowledge and experience about the Midwest fall raptor migration, which is just starting, btw. Now's your chance to be a part of it Michigan birders!

Want to know more? Dan recommends contacting the Grand Rapids Audubon Club.

Thanks to everyone for being a part of the screening!

Big thanks to the Pasadena Audubon Society for hosting a screening of HAWK WATCH documentary on May 20th at the beautiful Audubon Center at Debs Park.

We had about 60 people who came out to watch and support the film. The excitement for the hawks, citizen science, and the doc was amazing. Lots of great conversations and thoughtful questions afterward. A very fun and meaningful evening.

Thank you to the Orange County Bird of Prey Center for hosting a record-breaking screening of HAWK WATCH!

Over 300 people joined us last night at the beautiful Rivian South Coast Theater in Laguna Beach, an incredible turnout and an unforgettable venue.

The evening continued with a panel discussion featuring the Borrego Springs Hawksters and special guest Dr. Pete Bloom.

An inspiring night of education, awareness, celebration of nature, and the dedicated citizen scientists working to protect it. Stay tuned for upcoming screenings and ways to support raptor conservation.

A great morning on the hill last week! We hosted a group of Borrego Springs High School students who came out to experience what it means to be a Hawkster.

Though we didn’t see any Swainson’s Hawks we had a good look at a Red-tailed Hawk and we talked about how to tell these 2 species apart. We also showed everyone how to find birds in the spotting scope and how to locate birds in the sky.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen. We had a lot of fun and including photos here to help share that!

HAWK WATCH UPDATE April 2026
It’s been a slow season so far, with 1,370 Swainson’s Hawks recorded, our second-lowest total to date. We’re hopeful the numbers will rise in the coming weeks.

A recent stretch of triple-digit heat may have impacted migration, or the birds could simply be delayed. 🤞 Stay tuned for updates (and hopefully a few Hawks Alerts before the end of the season).

There have been some surprises, quiet evenings followed by mornings with 80–100 birds in the morning.

Eyes to the sky and hope to see you on the hill!
