Reminders. Our tech-powered lives are full of them. I don’t particularly like devices reminding me of things. Like the Amazon Echo screen that we have in our kitchen. Recipes! News! Schedules! Deliveries! Ehh… Nah. But photos? I’ve come to really appreciate this. It’s not an endless stream of images. Not a “reel”. Not sponsored content. Not a wall of everyone else’s lives. It’s just images that I give it access to, and then it picks one to show me every once in a while. I’m sure there’s a big, scary algorithm back there somewhere, but 9/10 times it delivers a pleasant surprise — digging into the catalog to find an image that brings back a memory like this one. Mid-COVID. My family and a few friends finding a sunny spot to remember what “normal” feels like. This is Jeff playing catch with his son at Crane Beach — one of my favorite images ever. It’s timeless. This is the kind of reminder that I can get behind.
