When the winds blowing, it's time to hit the computer setting up 3D modeling and flight routes to achieve accurate applications to handle adverse terrain and obstacles on the jobs that require more attention to detail like this one up in the Turtle Mountains.

Here is an example of our precision vegetation management on challenging terrain. To achieve this, we integrate RTK-GPS, photogrammetry, and automated 3D flight paths to guide our spray drones. First, an RTK-equipped mapping drone captures numerous images of the target area. Next, advanced photogrammetry software processes the data to generate a high-resolution aerial orthomosaic and a 3D digital twin of the terrain. Finally, we utilize this precise model to program the spray drone's boundaries, flight routes, and obstacle avoidance paths, ensuring a safe, highly accurate mission ex*****on.

A single aerial drone photo taken at 400 feet gives you a beautiful, high-resolution snapshot — but even from that height, the camera can only capture a limited portion of a large field at once. You’d need dozens (or hundreds) of separate shots to even come close to covering everything.
That’s where photogrammetry comes in.
By flying the drone at the same legal 400-foot altitude and taking hundreds of overlapping photos, we stitch them together into one seamless, accurate orthophoto of the entire field. The result is a distortion-free, true-to-scale map you can zoom into, measure, and analyze — without losing detail or accuracy.
✅ Single photo = quick visual of a small section
✅ Orthophoto = complete, professional view of the whole field
Both flown safely and legally under FAA rules (400 feet or lower).
Need the full picture of your field? Photogrammetry delivers it.

Below is a single photo at 400 feet and a processed Orthophoto at 400 feet. This particular Orthophoto is comprised of 772 photos. Why does the orthophoto look softer here on Facebook?
Because it’s a massive high-resolution file. Facebook automatically resizes and heavily compresses it to make loading fast, which reduces the fine detail and clarity you’re seeing right now.
In reality, the orthophoto has far more resolution and accuracy. We can deliver the full-resolution version via email, Google Drive or other various ways.

In a follow up to a recent post of a wheat field that encountered a hail event here's some additional data. Data was compared using the following Indicies: NDVI, GNDVI, NDRE, MCARI, LCI, SIPI2. NDVI index was discussed and shared in the last post, however over the past few weeks the overall values of NDVI have had little variation along with all other indecies with the exception of the MCARI index. MCARI stands for Modified Chlorophyll Absorption Ratio Index. This particular index measures the depth of Chlorophyll absorption in the leaf of plants. Here are the MCARI numbers over the past few weeks following the hail event.

7-18-24 - 0.922
7-27-24 - 0.712
8-7-24 - 0.615

Using photogrammetry and remote sensing can achieve high-resolution imaging, change detection, and spatial analysis, leading to informed decision-making in various fields.

Below is an example of a field trimmed to only represent the area of interest. In this case a wheat crop. The index value being displayed is NDVI or (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index). NDVI is used to measure the density and health of vegetation and is one of the most used indices. In this case the mean index value (average) is 0.807 with about 10% deviation.

NDVI values range from -1 to 1.

Ranges -1 to 0 represent water, dead vegetation or inanimate objects.

Ranges 0 to 0.33 would represent a diseased or stressed plant.

Ranges 0.33 to 0.66 represent a moderately healthy plant.

Ranges 0.66 to 1 represent a very healthy plant.

This particular crop experienced a hail event four days prior to the data displayed resulting in substantial damage. With an NDVI value of 0.807 after the hail event, the crop still exhibits healthy values, however these numbers will drop off overtime. Look for follow up data in the future as this field will be monitored for research and the findings will be shared.

Photogrammetry and remote sensing have applications beyond informing decision-making, including property management, monitoring and planning.
