Lewis Frazier Photography

Lewis Frazier Photography Lewis Frazier is a professional photographer whose work is layered by images of nature, wildlife, landscapes, and outdoor lifestyle.

Prints and photography workshops available at lewisfrazier.com. I was born with the undeniable passion for adventure, adrenaline, and an affinity for the natural beauty of our planet. My fascination with wild animals and remote places originates from my early years. I spent my childhood exploring the lakes and streams of the North Texas woodlands with my family - bringing home frogs, snakes, turtl

es, and baby birds. On hunting and fishing trips with my father, I spent hours amusing myself in the marshes and woodlands, learning valuable lessons in patience and understanding animal behavior. As a teenager, I spent much of my time outdoors, hiking, scuba diving and skiing whenever I had the chance. After High School, I began attending the University of Colorado in Boulder, where I graduated with degrees in both Neuroscience and Psychology, and two National Championship titles with the Colorado Buffaloes Freeskiing Team. It was here in the Rocky Mountains that I discovered my love of photography after receiving my first DSLR as a Christmas present from my family. As a result, I discovered something much more valuable than a camera - a passion for sharing the divine beauty of nature with others through images. Since then, I've been traveling the world any way I can; finding new places and subjects to frame with my lens. For me, every adventure is a fantastic opportunity to learn more and share the splendor of the vast outdoors with others, so that they might find the same joy and inspiration I have found in exploring the natural world, and be reminded of the delicate world we have to protect and care for. A fascination with the distant corners of our Earth and the magnificent creatures who call those places home has resulted in a growing desire to seek and document the pristine beauty of our planet - on land, underwater, from the air, and up close - while promoting awareness of our impact through photographs. Aside from photography, I am an accomplished and experienced freeskier, scuba diver and backpacker, and have been known to go flyfishing from time to time. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, concerns, licensing, or special requests. I am more than willing to tailor my work for special projects and/or accommodate requests for custom work. Shoot me an email and we'll work something out!

The sun had just sunk behind the mountains and the forest had grown very dark when the fox finally stood up. The air was alive with a beautiful glow, and I was in awe at the way his fur began to light up as he quietly made his way to the edge of the clearing, stopping briefly to take it all in before stepping out.

I was still propped on my elbows, laying on my chest as I had been for several hours, bracing my hand between the camera and the ground. I almost had a laugh to myself that the fox would finally do something epic like this when it was so incredibly dark. There was no way, I thought to myself, that I could hold still enough to get a clean shot, handheld on a 400mm, with almost no light. Even if I could, the fox and the wind would have to be perfectly still at the same instant or the image would be a blur. With my shutter down to 1/8sec, I held my breath and prayed that neither of us would move a muscle.. *click*

As the fox and the glow vanished, I exhaled and the breeze returned. I didn’t look at the back of my camera for several hours, as I was sure it would just be a disappointment.. Feeling blessed for that special memory, and thankful for this image to remind me that it wasn’t a dream.

🥀🦔🌿Have you ever seen a porcupine? I found this one on a hillside munching on wild rosebuds one evening, being very careful to avoid being poked by thorns! Somehow, watching a porcupine get poked by a prickly plant is very sad and funny at the same time. 😂 After a summer offline, I’m finally back - and will be for a long time! I have all kinds of exciting things to share with you all over the coming weeks. I’ll try to get back to all of your messages as soon as I can!

Fun fact - a porcupine’s quills have antibiotic properties that help fight off infection. Although porcupines are great climbers, they seek precarious places because their favorite buds and leaves are at the very tips of branches and tops of trees. Because of this, porcupines fall out of trees quite often, usually quilling themselves - but not killing themselves - thanks to their antibiotic quills! This allows them to enjoy their daring lifestyles in pursuit of those irresistible treats. 😋

While hiking to a distant mountain through the remote and uninhabited rainforest of East Maui, I came upon a deep canyon and followed it until I ended up here.. on accident. (Seriously.) Never made it to the top of the mountain I had originally set out for, and almost died several times on the way out trying to outrun a sudden flash flood. Flash flooding is no joke - especially when you’re miles deep in a canyon with thousand-foot walls and only one way out. When I finally made it out late that night, I was exhausted, banged up and so stoked I didn’t drown 😂 The pros and cons of exploring I guess 🌴🌊 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is the little bird that tells everyone everything they’re not supposed to know. I’m not kidding. He told me. And when the little bird is about all you’ve seen or heard after many days in the wilderness looking for bears, you start to listen. 🐦😜
A moment admiring the beautiful mind of this small, unremarkable-looking young bird was a good reminder that when we’re always focused on the big things, we often miss out on the little things.

This cinnamon bear cub was in the middle of being scolded by his mother for loudly scampering up a tree, and was reluctantly on his way back down for what was certainly a timeout - if not a spanking. He certainly knew what was coming based on how slowly he walked over to her.. 🐻😂

👽🧪👀 Midnight in the rainforest and a big pair of eyes staring back at me. This is an Emerald Glass Frog. It is named for its translucent skin, and its bones are emerald green! If you look closely, you can actually see them - especially in the shoulders right under his chin! 🍀
