The skyline itself is always there, but the moment isn’t. This photograph was made during a fleeting pause between rain clouds, when the evening light briefly revealed Seattle at its sharpest—city lights aglow with the energy of the Emerald City of the Pacific Northwest.

The Olympic Mountains stand tall in the northwestern corner of Washington State, and among them, The Brothers rise as one of the range’s most striking features. This photo was taken from the upper parking lot at St. Michael Medical Center—a wonderful vantage point for capturing images or simply admiring their rugged majesty.

I love observing wildlife—especially when there’s a thick pane of glass or a tall fence between us. Bandar, a majestic tiger at the Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, Washington, was my subject that day. I had hoped to photograph him outdoors, but he decided to stay inside instead. I captured this shot through the glass and later cropped away the background distractions. The effort paid off—this photo went on to win Best of Class and Best of Show in a photography contest.

It was a bitterly cold winter night when I took this photo. My wife of more than 40 years stood beside me, bundled up and freezing, patiently waiting as I tried to capture the scene. She wasn’t entirely sure what I was seeing through the lens, but she felt the same beauty in the moment. Only after I brought the image up on the computer at home did she truly understand why we had spent so long out in the cold.
This photo of the Narrows Bridges has become one of my favorites—not just for the image itself, but for what it represents: her quiet support and shared appreciation for the beauty around us.

I’ve always been drawn to eagles—their majesty, their power, their effortless command of the open sky. They carry the very essence of freedom in every sweep of their wings. Capturing this image took several journeys to Seabeck, each one a lesson in patience and quiet observation.
As evening settled over the water, the world grew still. Eagles rarely fly at that hour; by then, they’ve retreated to their nests, resting in the hush before dawn’s first light. But on this final sighting of the day, one lingered a moment longer—gliding through the fading glow. In that instant, framed by dusk and silence, I felt the rare privilege of witnessing grace in motion.
